I have a spare new 302 oil pump, cranking over my old bronco today the aftermarket gauge didnt seem like it was moving it was pegged at about 50 lbs even at idle. I walked away letting it run and about 5 minutes later it flat out died. Going to crank it back over it wont start and I notice that I have 0 oil pressure even while cranking..... checked my gauge out ( its mechanical) my connections are all good. I dont think no oil pressure would cause the engine to die like that. Well anyway, do they accept the same pump? That will be my after noon project if they do.....
good to know. So I pulled the dist. cap thinking that maybe I broke a oil pump driveshaft since i had no spark and no oil pressure. I tried to turn the rotor and it was nice an tight so i knew I still had a gear down below at least. Pulled the dist. and checked it out everything was cool. put it all back together and she kicked right over and had 40 lbs at high idle. I let it run for a minute and hopped in to pull her in the driveway and the second I touched the throttles it fell flat on its face and no start situation again. Im not quote sure whats goin on here, any ideas? Im checkin all my wiring now...
Turns out it was a loose connection at my coil + causing my start no start, I have Summit Racings CD ignition box, Dist and HEI style coil. I can say enought about the dist and the ign box. I have had great luck and performance out of them for almost 2 years now. But Summits coil on the other hand is a cheap design, they have studs and nuts on the front to attatch your pos and neg wires, I barely tightened the stud down on the + side and it pulled the stud right out of the coil! They replaced it for free but ever since I have been a little gun shy as to tighten them down. I snugged them up tonight and heard a crack on the + side again. But the beast is alive and runs like a champ again. I would recommend a different brand for the coil.
Summit makes copies of other brand name stuff overseas and after my experiance with Summit I dont buy it any more. You get what you pay for and its not ecenomical to have to buy something twice.
