Rear View Mirror On Windshield???

Hey All,
I'm looking for a mirror for my 69 F250. It has the windshield button with a ball on it for a mirror that has the shaft that can separate and then be screwed back together. It appears that this type of mirror mount was only used for a short time on limited models. Does anyone here know what other models/years use this mount or maybe has one they are willing to sell me? I realize that I could try to get the old one off and use the more standard mount, but don't want to chance damaging the windshield. All help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Gene

Mirror glued to the windshield.

1961/66 T-Birds used a chrome day/night mirror: C1SZ17700A, as did 1965/66 cars. The shaft is sold separate (2 pieces) as is the bracket that attaches to the glass.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1967/79 Ford cars used three types:

A black plastic day/night mirror...the shaft of which is sold separate, as is the bracket.

This same mirror was also used on 1967/69 F100/350's: C7AZ17700GIA.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
A shorter version of this mirror was used on 1970/77 Mavericks, 1971/80 Pinto's and 1974/78 Mustang II's: DODZ17700A.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some cars use a one piece mirror, the entire assembly was sold as a unit.

This mirror was also used on 1970/79 F100/350's & 1969/79 Econolines: DOAZ17700A.

Thanks Bill for the info. Now I just need to find any one of them. All I need is the mirror and shaft as the piece is already on the windshield. I don't care if it's chrome, day/night, short or long, I just need a mirror. Anybody got one they will part with?
TIA

Actually, the ball portion that's still on your windshield (if I read you correctly) can be easily removed from the clip that is glued to the windshield by use of the Allen setscrew on the bottom. Then you can take a trip to your favorite local wrecking yard and take your pick of just about any windshield-mounted Ford rearview mirror that catches your eye, though I would concentrate on the ones that Bill listed above for a certain fit. I don't think Ford changed the shape of the clip in later years, but I'm not positive on that. '60s-'80s should cover it...

Guy M. Fish Co. (Ford Dealer) in Spartansburg PA has one: DOAZ17700A.

This is NOS (New, Old Stock).

TigerDan,
The ball on this one is part of the round piece that's glued to the windshield, not the slide on type. Hence my search for the mirror and shaft. Bill do you have a phone number for Guy M. Fish Co? Although I'll bet the $$$ for NOS is pretty high. I'm certainly not doing a "Concourse" restoration, just looking for a suitable used unit that won't break the bank or the windshield from trying to remove the original?!?
Thank You,
Gene

814-654-7311. The dealer can no longer return it to Ford, so is STUCK with it.

Usually...the price is less than the original list price.

Possibly Acetone? Are you trying to dissolve to remove/loosen the button or needing to get off the leftovers from having already removed the button? I the button is already off, I'd use a single edged razor blade in a small pair of vise-grips.

Oh heck, I should have mentioned I tried acetone and MEK, sorry 'bout that.
Hmmm... used brake fluid is a favorite of mine but it needs time to work
and almost upside down on the windshield is a bad spot for that business. ;)

The button is in place on my '91 and I want it off.
I don't want to break the windshield is all.

A friend from work and his kid went for a ride and his kid knocked the mirror
off my '75... my buddy was upset and I told him "don't worry about it, I was
thinking about taking it off anyway :)" I don't think he -ever- believed me but
the kid did me a big-*** favor! LOL :) Hadn't had that stinkin mirror in my
way since '78.

Gene, YMMV on that. ;)

Hey Bill,
That DOAZ17700A is the whole thing and I'm assuming not the one with the removable/separateable shaft to use the the ball that is already on my windshield? I really need to find the 2 piece shaft and any one of the mirrors that go with it. I guess I need the part number for the shaft as well and whether or not anyone has it, NOS, new or used, even a little rusty or pitted, I don't care. Again, I beg, can anyone help me out?
TIA

C7OZ17700C .. Inside Mirror-Black - DAY-NITE, less arms / 10" long / 2 3/8" wide.

WITH this mirror, you need to use one: C9AZ17698B Bracket Kit.

The C7OZ-C mirror does not have the ball on the backside, just a stud.

The bracket kit comes with two arms that adapt the stud on the mirror to the ball on the windshield.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 1 of the mirrors and 5 of the bracket kits = 800-543-4959

WESLEY OBSOLETE PARTS in Liberty KY has 4 of the mirrors = 606-787-5293

JST AUTOMOTIVE in Lebanon TN has 7 of the bracket kits: 615-443-3086.

The flat part that glues to the windshield is a separate part that didn't come with any of the above.

Removal...heat that puppy up with a hair dryer from the outside of the windshield, it will then fall off.

Bill,
On mine, and some others I've seen, the ball is part of the flat part that's glued to the windshield, that's the problem. I'll gladly try the hair dryer method, but find it hard to believe that heat will do it, considering that all the vehicles I have with mirrors glued to the windshield sit in the baking Las Vegas sun every year and I've yet to have one fall off.
Thanks
Gene

As I see it you need a new mirror and the arms, correct?

If so, I found these parts, see post #12.

What's the problem with the bracket that's glued to the windshield?

I was thinking that it might be a situation where the metal is cold and the
windshield warm. For us it might work the best to put an ice cube to the
metal when the glass is warm?
