I am new to the diesel world so please bear with me.
My truck is a 04 crew cab with 80,000 on it and needs a head gasket job. I'm going to use ARP studs and a complete EGR removal, not just the block off plate like I have now.
My question is do you think it is worth the money to have the heads o-ring and use ford gaskets or just get my heads resurfaced? 2nd question is, who would you recommend to o-ring my heads?
Please let me know if I might of left something out that I don't know or forgot.
It's not really worth the money to o-ring/fire ring the heads unless you're going to do some MAJOR horsepower modifications. It's MUCH more important to make sure that your heads and block are as flat as they can possibly be. The Ford MLS gaskets are being used on some pretty high horsepower trucks without firerings (mine is 517 rwhp) and ARP headstuds.
Im going thru the samething right now with the same amount of mileage. Im not taking any chances (dont want no worrys) so I decided to go with o-rings (firerings). I was going to just get a local machine shop to do it but come to find out both heads was cracked.
So I ordered a set from liberator performance heads with o-rings already installed with arp studs 2600.00 I should never have to worry about the headgasket no more.
