Im coming up on 70,000 miles soon on my 04. Ive never really gotten a full "tune up" of any kind. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should do or should I just take it to my mechanic friend at ford and have him overhaul it?

I just hit 100K, and I have only done the normal fluid and filter service. Truck runs like a champ and I'm not going to do the plugs unless I have to. I have a 4.6 XL work truck. Just get the normal service by someone you trust. It shouldn't need anything major at 70K. Things I've done is Rear end gear fluid service, trans fluid/filter service, oil changes, serpentine belt, brake fluid flush, power steering flush, fuel filter, coolant flush and air filter cleanings (K&N)
if its a 5.4 3V you may want to get plugs done and hope they come out clean
4.6 does not have a plug removal problem check on this site on some of the plug change night mares
I had mine done by dealer at 80.0000 klm none broke
good luck
If you do it yourself let them soak at least overnight per the latest TSB and have a Lisle #65600 tool kit for any broken plugs. Maybe lots of Preparation H, because it can be a PITA. I would suggest the Champion 7989 plugs. If your COP's need to be replaced I would suggest a set of Accel #140033. I got a set from Summit for $280 plus Handling charges.
