i would personally get a 350 and start out big and just add on to that,,cause i dont you are goin to just keep the frame the way it is to pull,,you can get these trucks cheap go find a 350 and build it up
350's are great if you can find one but you can find 250's pretty easily...id go with no less than a 250, then throw a 460 and a few axle upgrades(such as a front d60) at it and see what happens....
go with a 350. if you can't find a 350 buy a 250 and put heavier springs in the rear with air bags. then, like bartn98 said, a d60 front. i would put a sterling or a dana 70 in the rear
Your chances of finding a 70's F-350 4x4 are kinda hard. I pull a 77 F-250 and a 82 F-250, i've never had any front axle problems with the D44 most of the pressure is on the rearend i've been through 5 driveshafts, couple rearend gears and blew the housing between the trans and t-case once. Just keep the 460 wound tight and hope for the best.

what kind of rear axle u runnin in your 77??
the reason i ask is im thinking of replacing the d60 in my 77 highboy with a d70 or sterling....just dont know which is better...any suggestions
I'm runnin the D60 with the factory trac-loc and the spider gears seem to be the weak link so i'm gonna go to a spool. I know alot of other guys around are going to the D80 out of late 90's early 2000's Dodge duallys. I've never had a sterling but the aftermarket seems to carry a lot more for dana's.
