I am trying to solve a small idle problem. Its not bad enough to shake the truck, but I can feel it in my seat. I have replaced injectors, plugs, coils, EGR, IAC, and the air filter. Its still there. Any suggestions? Its a small rough idle but it drives my crazy. I was thinking maybe O2 sensor.
Well since everyone had so many suggestions I decided to take my chances at the stealership.
Well fifty dollars and an enitre day later I got my truck back and their idea of whats wrong. They said my wire harness has some broken or brittle connections to the injectors and coils, and are coming loose as I drive.
Has anyone else had this problem? They wanted to charge me $700 to replace the harness. I brought my truck home and now I am contemplating some repair to fix the problem. He said the connections are just coming loose, so I need to figure out how to keep them from coming loose. Any suggestions or back street machanic fixes? Has anyone had to replace their engine harness? Thanks
Although I have never replaced the harness I can't imagine it being that bad to replace... just expensive. Honestly though if it was my truck I would just use some tape or RVT to hold the wire plugs into the coils. Check to see if you can pull the wires off the coils and injectors without depressing the clip to find the broken ones.
I was trying to come up with a fix too, but tape wouldn't work cause of heat and I wonder if RTV would actually get in between the electric connections. I'm still open for ideas I just wanted to find one that would last.
It suprises me that no one has had to replace one.
Well on my quest to fix my truck I came up with another option or idea. Has anyone replaced a single connector for the injector or for the coil ? If I can find a supplier for the connectors and go that route I wont have to replace the whole harness.
Or does anyone know the part number to the harness? I have tried but I cant seem to find it. Thanks
