Broken back window question

Hello,
I have a 00 X and the other day my son slammed the back lift gate (glass) down too hard and it smashed it to pieces. I called the dealer and he said he could put a new one in for $485 + tax (including labor). Do you think I can get a better price by going to some glass place or windshield place that specializes in these things or would I be better off taking it to the dealer?
Thanks for the help,
Joe

I would get a quote from a automotive window shop. Most times the dealer is gonna use one of the local installers anyway.

If you have Comphensive Insurance I would check with my Insurance. I think you will find you are covered.

We have went through this before on one of the threads here. And the end result was it is covered.

Best of Luck

I seriously believe that if you tint your windows beyond what the factory has done, it makes the windows stronger. There are films that are very, very light that you could apply to the rear to help prevent it from breaking again.

One of the main reasons I tinted all my windows was to help prevent window breakage...plus it keeps it cooler inside...okay, OKAY! I looks cool.

However, now that we're talking about this, I didn't tint my rear window due to visibility issues. Now I'm paranoid. I gotta go see my tint guy...

Thank you for the response. I will call some window places today and check their prices. I can not turn this into my insurance b/c I have a $500 deductable.
Thanks everyone!

JoKan,
Comprenhisive, which covers glass, and other non collision damage, usually has 50.00 deductable.
You may have 500 deductable on collision but usually not compreshinsive coverage.
You should read you policy carefully. Or better yet call your agent.

Hey its your 500.00 dollars.
