I've never had a problem with my PSD starting even at -38*. It's cold here (still -9* at 11 am today) so we always have winterized diesel from the bulk fuel supplier in our county and I always add PS to the tank year round. When it is deep in the belows, she will make some smoke when she fires up and need some time to warm up but she always goes - knock on wood. Run those glow plugs through 2 cycles to make sure the cylinders are warm enough to combust! Run good winter mix and additive so you don't jell up. Buying cheep diesel at City Market is sure to cause you problems in the cold.

Low tech solution for cold diesel engines. Learned a quick fix from a rancher. Buy a cheap sheet metal hibachi, and small bag of charcoal briquettes in a ziplok bag and some quick start or paper and pine cones. Wait til the fire has gone down and it's embers only then slide it under the oil pan. I put a 'leash' on it in case I have to yank it out in a hurry. My 7.3 doesn't leak oil/fuel so I don't worry. Might worry is I had gasoline!
