First of all , i would like to say a big thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. Here goes with my first question...my carb on my 223 has the choke cable attatchment broken off....also i am missing the air cleaner fixing bracket......what would be the best way around this? try to find another 1 bbl carb ? swap the carb completely for a different model ? i've looked around for spares on this carb and it ain't looking too good..any ideas guys???
Thanks, steve
Steve, I noticed that your truck is a 1960. Don't know about UK but I think that's the wrong carb for a 1960 here in the US. They normally have a 1bbl Holley with the float bowl right out front (1904?). I think the carb on your's is from an older model. I would change it, the Holley is a lot easier to find and find parts for. Best of luck with it.
Thanks Lou, The truck came to me (from so-cal) with this carb on, for some reason i thought the carb i need was a holley 1918 ? (223 6cly / 3 sp manual ) but i am not sure...i would like to replace it for sure...any help would be appriciated....Thanks, steve.
Steve that carb on E-bay is not what you are looking for.
Here is a picture of the one on my '59. I think the '60 would be the same.
Many have a metal instead of glass bowl but look the same otherwise.
Steve, I second 52 F3's opinion on the Autolite 1101. I don't remember it being used that early but I may be wrong. I do remember wrestling a lot of driveability problems with that carb (the 1101) on the "small" (170, 200, 250) six. The picture is of the carb I was thinking of. With or without the clear float bowl, it's the same as the carburetor on my '58 and the same as the carburetor on the '60 I used to have. My money would be spent on that one. Easy to find parts for, easy to repair and doesn't give very many problems. Of course, you could always find a 32/36 weber to use with an adapter plate from Clifford. In the US it's easier to find the Autolite knock off from a Pinto. That may be an option you hadn't thought of...
Blimey guys......this site is ace!!!!!!! Thanks 52 F3 and Lou......
So can you confirm the carb model i should be looking for...as i will prob be buying one off ebay usa as most of the holley stuff in the uk seems to be for v8's...
Steve
I can't give you a model # without some research. If some one else doesn't come up with it I'll dig later.
You will also find the same model carbs for different applications.
You need the one for your application.
Check this place out. I have had good luck with them on some hard to find older carbs. I usually have a core though. I don't know how they will be price wise without a core or what you will run into on shipping overseas but you will at least get some good info.
I did a little digging and came up with 1904 for a model #. That is the same as Manglass stated in one of his replys. A 1908 is the same carb with an auto choke.
I searched E-pay for Ford Carburetor and came up with several. Here is one.
I did not find any under Holley 1904.
Thanks for all of this Richard......i do appriciate it. So really i am looking for a holley 1904. I guess the search begins here. Are there places in the states thet sell re-con carbs off the shelf?
....but like you said linkages might be different, but as i don't know what "my" carb is suppose to look like, i'm in the dark really...... Might have to fab something up .....
That really looks close.
I can't be sure if it is the same where the accel link hooks up but will look in the morning. It is 7:00 pm here now.
I can't see in your pic and it doesn't show in mine but you need a pivot link that attaches to the intake manifold behind the carb that changes the direction of movement of the linkage. Do you have something like that on yours?
