my cross over pipe to my turbo is full of rust holes i was wondering this is not going to hurt anything is it? im just not going to boost as quick? and if i was to take out the muffler and strait pipe it does it matter how long the pipe should be ? im thinking of putting stacks or at least one but no muffler its turbo so i have the back pressure and i hear the sooner the better for the exhaust to get out and to dubble check i have the 7.3 international with the turbo from factory does this make mine in the i.d.i category?
With any holes/leaks you won't be making hardly any boost, anywhere, depending on the size of the holes. Diesels don't really need much in the way of back pressure, just an easy way out for the exhaust. And if it's a 94 with a factory turbo then it's an IDI.

off the top of my head i could say about 20 holes that are about a 1/8th big .... and by does not need ''much'' mean i should have a little something extra in the line of pipe? and ya i think its a 94 haha have not checked my truck for a while its been broken more than anything
and on another note what are better gears 355 or 410? mine is a 5 speed and im not sure of the gears in it now but i blew up the front and rear ends and the gears i got for the rear where 355 with a factory locker so i will just match the front later but im wondering if im going to gane or lose gas mlg.
If there's an engine cover on your motor it's a PowerStroke.
If the cover is gone (like my '97's was) an easy way to tell is that there will be a big black plastic finned circle right in the middle of the motor in the valley.
If it's a '93 it's an IDI, if it's a '95 it's a PS.
If you run stock-size tires you'll like the 3:55s.
If you are, or want to, run 35" or taller meats you'll like the 4:11s.
My PS has 4:11s and they suck for stock-size tires.
International or more correctly Navistar built both the IDI and Power Stroke engines.
If you see steel injection lines going to each injector from the injection pump, then it is IDI.
No injection lines or IP, then it is Power Stroke.
94 was a confusing year, NA 7.3 IDI, 7.3 turbo IDI and 7.3 Power Stroke engines were all possible that year.
An IDI turbo looks like this
But Navistar did not use cool colors like I did.
Lol nice looking moter so ya I guess I got the 7.3 turbo I.d.I. And I guess for the not being able to boost as well would account for the crazy smoke and seem of lack of power while towing my buddys blazer on hills
Dave is correct, a muffler shop should be able to make you a new pipe, that ones pretty easy and open up the exhaust plus if yours is still factory exhaust you have the dreaded exhaust crimp in the exhaust pipe coming out of turbo between the engine and cab.
Hey Dave, the only problem with your colors is if you need to work on it you will be seeing red, literally.

dreaded exhaust crimp ??? and i guess if im going to do a new cross over i dont want to be adding a bigger pipe because i will get more turbo lag? just bigger after the turbo ?
Yes keep the same size crossover, you may consider wrapping it with exhaust wrap before reinstalling. The factory turbo system has a crushed area in it to clear the weld seam on the firewall of the cab, if you can find it used or afford new ATS makes a larger turbo outlet and 3" downpipe. A 3" downpipe into 4" exhaust and doing something different than the plastic air inlet on top of the drivers side battery will help wake that engine up.
