no tow package - Class III...if you even have the reciever...you are limited to 5,000 lbs max since it doesn't have a trans cooler and the wiring
with tow package - Class IV...up to 9,100 lbs depending on your cab style and rims
I belive the Heavy Duty has the Class V since their technically capable of 10,000 lbs
Instresting to know. I have an 06 FX4 with a towing package... 6.5 ft box super cab... Ialways thought i had a class 3 hitch. I know i put my hitch to the limits everytime i tow something.
Class I/II are 2,500-3,000ish
Class III - 5,000
Class IV - 9,000 to 10,000
Class V - 10,000 to 14,000
not hard #'s, but they're pretty consistent with the all the manufacturers...I cannot imagine Ford opening themselves up to Liability Lawsuits by putting a Class III on there, but rating the truck at 9,100 lbs.
btw, got curious and looked at my Durango w/ Hemi...even it has a Class IV on there...think it's max is 7,500 lbs

Also depends on drive train and base curb weight. I have a 2006 XLT extended cab $X$ with th4 6.5' box, not an FX4. It has the towing package, trans cooler, built in trailer wiring, etc, but it's only rated for 8500. Check your owners manual to be sure.
