How can I lower my EGT's on my 94 7.3? I have chenged the down pipe to 2 1/2" and from there back is 3" with a flowmaster. Is there anything else I can do? k & n Filter?
it means that you are cool only if your first name is Dean
I turned up the fuel 1 1/2 flats. By itself going up hill at 60 I am at 1000, with my pyro in the manifold. I am worried about putting my toy hauler behind it and pulling hills. If I turn the fuel down and keep the turbo at 10 will that be ok?
That does seem kind of high. I'm only getting about 600 degrees under similar conditions. But mine is none gated and I have 3" pipe from the turbo to the outlet behind the rear wheel.
Mine will get that hot if the hill is 8% or more and I'm flooring it to hold 60-70 MPH. How steep was the hill?
The hill isnt that sharp I don't know the grade though sorry. There is a lot sharper hills that I take with the trailer. Do you think I should turn the turbo down a little? Or should I turn the fuel down maybe another 1/2 flat? I like the power where it is at but I don't want to hurt anything. Where did you get the 3" downpipe? It is really tight between the firewall and the motor.
Would it help to take the flowmaster off. I really don't want the noise but if that will make a big difference then guess what. Would it be ok to turn the fuel down and leve the turbo up or should they stay together?
Taking the muffer off probably won't make much difference.
My turbo kit is the ATS 088 which is an older, none waste gated turbo kit. All ATS turbo kits came with at 3" downpipe. Yes, its a tight squeeze in there to fit the 3" pipe, You also need room to spare so that body flex doesn't cause the pipe to vibrate against the cab (sounds awful when it does!).
What your truck has is a ford version of the later 093 wastegated kit. These version have a smaller turbo outlet to fit the smaller downpipe to clear the firewall. This in itself could be a lot of the problem you have with EGTs. Turning the fuel down slightly might be the safest, and easiest thing to do for now but as long as you are below 1200, you are still safe.
I saw one guy made a cold air intake (Cant remember who it was). Would that help at all? How about going to 4" from the down pipe back? But that would still leve the 2 1/2" down pipe and turbo outlet. That sucks about the small turbo outlet. That is probably the most of my problems. I just don't want to dump a ton of money into it right now (to a point)
If you are getting enough air to it, I would say turn the fuel down a 1/2 flat and see how it runs.
What gear are you in at 60 mph? Dropping a gear will reduce the load on the engine and lower your temp too. Also, you will be a gear or 2 lower when towing, depending on the size of your trailer, so I wouldn't panic until you pull you're trailer and see how it responds.
Need to add some info about your truck in your signature, year, engine, transmission, gearing and mods. Makes it helpful to know what you have
Ok thank you Jason. I will add that sorry I am still new. I have an auto trans and it is still in over drive when I pulled that hill. You are right about the downshift when pulling a load. In a lower gear that will drop the temp? I will try that. Sorry for the pannic. Do you know anything about wraping the crossover pipe? I have seen that done
Hey deano, something you could try: Get a 3" ATS downpipe, a 2 1/2" V-band flange and a 2 1/2"-3" reducer.
Find the total length of the V-band & reducer and cut that amount off the downpipe, and then weld them onto the downpipe.
With that, you'd be able to clamp the downpipe onto your factory flange, and at least have 3" from there out. Not perfect, but better than nothing (and way cheaper than buying the ATS kit)

If you downshift, you will be at a higher RPM. Means less load on the engine, which should help lower the EGT. With the trailer (unless it is huge), you might be able to pull it in 3rd gear at a safe level.
No big deal about the panic. I was only saying not to worry until you see how it pulls with the trailer.
