So I am still having a problem with my truck not starting. At first everything was fine and it ran, but it had a small fuel leak. It was leaking from a small bolt on the back of the IP. I decided to pull it off and try to wrap it with Teflon tape to try and stop the leak. When I pulled the bolt out, it was really a long dowel. So I pulled it out and put Teflon tape on it and tried to screw it back in, but something was different. The bolt would not bottom out. I realized that the threads were basicly gone on the ip. Anyways, long story short, I got a new IP. It was a 7.3 ip and I have a 6.9, but I was told before that it would work. Now I have bled the lines of air, and she still wont start. It is getting fuel, but it will not start. I have tried to use either and no go. I have tried glow plugs, no go. What should I do?
No I did not remove the cover. I took the nuts off the studs and then took the bolts off the timing gear and pulled the IP out from the back. Then put it back in the same way. I made sure that the short dowel that runs through the timing gear lined back up.
When I use either, you can smell the either at the tail pipe when starting.
I thought so too, but I have tried to clear the air 4 times and I keep getting nothing but fuel coming out. When I go home I will try again, but is there anything else it can be?
Are you bleeding the system at the injectors? Are you getting a good amount of fuel at the injectors? All your connections tight?
Do you have the timing marks lined up or close?
Can you hear a slight click in the IP when you turn on the key?. And I think they are talking about the two scribe marks (one on hub of IP the other on the gear cover where IP bolts on. They should be close, maybe move pump mark to passenger side of cover mark slightly
My cranking speed is good. I just replaced the starter, and it sounds fine.
I do hear the click when I turn the key.
The hub of the IP is not a complete circle. It has a small squared piece missing, and on the timing gear is a short dowel that runs into it. At least that is how it was on the previous ips
Look over the back side of the drive gear cover down onto the top of the IP where it bolts on to the cover, should see a scribe mark there, one on pump one on cover
