I drive about 4 miles to work and its been a little cold .. but i have noticed that my temp guage does not ever change.. it hardly ever goes above the c.. is that normal...
No, the thermostat may have failed and stuck open or your engine is actually warming up and the temp sender or gauge is bad or there is a loose or bad ground in the circuit.
the engine is getting warm.. i think its the guage.. it moves a little .. but not much.. like its bad.. isant that located under on the top of the engine.. behind the throttle body. on a 4.0 pushrod?
To fix a stuck tstat, you replace it. Drain some coolant out of the radiator, remove the upper hose from where it attaches to the block. That piece is held on with 3 bolts, and the tstat (on my '91 Exploder, anyway) is located right under that.
Easy to do, especially with pics is a shop manual - get one if you don't have one.
the sender provides the signal to the temperature gauge. The sensor tells the computer the engine temp so it knows (1)when to turn on or off the EGR system and (2) how to adjust the fuel mix.
