I drive a 2000 4.6 triton manual super cab it has 91000 on it. To give a little back round this time a year I am a hard core ice fishermen we have a lot of snow on the ice so busting drifts is a full time job. My truck starting missing last saturday no codes for a brief moment on the way home I had a flashing service engine soon light which I was told is a miss fire however it is no longer there. My younger brother who has had his 97 longer has experienced liquid down in the plug ports and told me to clean and dry out. I did this pulling the COPs, the rear plug hole (did not remove plugs) full of water, does any one know if this will ruin the coil in there experience or did I not get it clean out good enough(compressed air and wire rags, gun cleaning kit) as it is missing worse today than yesterday before I worked on it and even worse as it warms up ?
Side note bought it with 50000 on it, 28 days later at 54000 replaced both heads blew a spark plug out so there is not a lot of miles on the plugs or heads for that matter.
Welcome to FTE artic1975! Go ahead and pull the plug out. check it for a cracked insulator. Check the plug boot and the COP looking for carbon tracks and cracks in the body of the COP. Replace anything that looks suspicious and be sure to use dielectric grease on the plug boot inside where the plug goes as well as around the top of the plug boot where it contacts the head. Good luck!
Spark plug on 4 cleaned up still had a miss also ended up with water sitting underneath the cops on 7 and 8 replaced boots on those and everything is good however all the screwing around has losened some stuff in the catallitic converter, not really in love with the 2000 4*4 of the year any more, seems to be a POS if you want to really used the 4*4.
I see in some post folks talk about haynes manual(i think) I also used a chiltons on my 68 in any of your experience what is the best manual for my 2000 4*4 4.6 triton cause it is looking like I will need to be a little better than a drive way mechanic owning this one I have had it for over 4 years and really the first time I have beat it up in 4 wheel drive. Besides I would like a good laugh as to what makes those in-operable fog lights work on the front of my truck that have never came on.
