Here's a couple questions that I havn't seen asked yet...
1. How do you know your shocks are shot, without taking them off.
2. What differences (if any) will I notice if I upgrade from stock to Bilsteins 5100's?
My truck is an 2002 F-250 5.4, has 107,000 and still has stock shocks and suspension, regular stock shocks not FX4.
#1I can tell you your stock shocks are shot. You can usually tell by how it handles when you go over bumps (railroad tracks are a good indicator) When I go over railroad tracks now, it bounces all over the place because it is now relying solely on the leaf springs.
Further, memory tells me that 2002 Super Duty trucks had leaf springs and the death wobble came to be with the coil front springs the next year.
Before I changed shocks on my 2005 F-350, 4x4, 6.4 diesel, while driving on I-75 between exits 161 and 170, there were sections of roadway that I could not hold the truck in the passing lane at 55 mph. The concrete in that area is very bad and the truck would bounce like a basketball.
Put on the Billsteins, BES-C295-HO and no more bounce. I also changed the rear shocks, and vibration dampner at the same time.
Thanks guys. Doesn't sound like my shocks are shot, but Billsteins sound like they provide better control on rough roads. I'll check into it. Thanks again
If the vehicle you drive is not up to your expectations, or un-controllable, you may want to consider better parts for your suspension to improve it's handling and safety. Monroe promotes after 50,000, but surely have 100,000 ALL manufacturers will tell you to change them. Think if it this way, it effects the comfort of your ride, your ability to keep your tires on the ground, which effects you ability to stop, and saves gas.
Your truck no doubt came with twin tube shocks, a very old technology for trucks. Mono-tube shocks are the way to go and Bilsteins is the best, and no more expensive than the others. Search on Bilstein in this forum and you will see all the positive comments.
For a 2002 F250 Super Duty 2WD (if that is your truck) a full set of Bilsteins is $287.80, and your forum discount is 5%, so it is $273.41 to you and we ship for free inside the U.S.
If you are interested in them let me know.

I do not have a lift or huge tires on my truck. Its basically stock. I am in need of new shocks all the way around incl steering stabilizer and was wondering if I should go with the Rancho 9000 shocks since they have lifetime warranty on them.
I have the Rancho 9000X series shocks and I like them a lot
The 9000 series are user adjustable and I originally had their in-cab controller It worked for awhile and then didn't. I ditched it and just set them at a setting of 5 and keep them set there.
I had an issue with the shocks not working, contacted Rancho(tenneco corp) and dealt with a great customer serive person who sent me (4) new shocks for free, I didn't even have to cover shipping.
I have a 2004 F-350 4x4 Diesel, everything is stock on my truck and i often tow about 14,ooo lbs (my mini excavator) and i am looking to replace my shocks and have a few questions.
1 what is leveling?
2 will the bilstein shock be good for max heavy loads on truck and towing?
3 If bilstein is good for heavy load work, which model would be best suited for me?
