I have an 85 351W that I am going to rebuild this summer. What is the best head for this motor without killing my pocket book? I am a college student with little money to spend but I want the most horsepower for my money. Also I dont want to be worrying about huge compression issues since I am not building a race car. Thanks again guys.

What kind of pistons, did you do a rebuild? You can probly get away with a very nice set of world cast Iron heads or some thing similar. Those dont cost much.
I havent rebuilt it yet there for the pistons and such are still up in the air.
What kind of rebuild would determine the type of heads you use.The stock heads are not that bad with some good port work.Or if you come across some, the old 351 4v windsor heads flowed really well. And they bolt right on.If you want to spend some cash then go with some thing cast iron. You can get mostly the same flow rates that you would from a set of good aluminum ones.
Best junkyard heads you'll find are the '96-97 GT40's from an Explorer/Mountaineer, just have to bore out the bolt holes to 1/2" and bolt these on. You can get similar performance from the E7's if you know how to do a complete porting job and install larger valves, but most people don't have the knowledge or necessary equipment so it's easier and more cose effective to just find a set of GT40's. For a little more money you may find some used World Jr's or Edelbrock heads, or you could invest in some prefessionally ported E7's like these Thumpers... Thumper of Orange Park
You would have to have a machine shop drill the bolt holes to 1/2" for gt40 heads. The gt40p's also take a different exhaust header than typical E7,windsor heads. You also have to consider what cam and intake your running. You would want your combo to work together. You dont want HUGE flowing heads with a small cam.Or vice versa.I would consider what rebuilt you want and what kind of performance you want out of your rig. Then go from there.
I believe you are better off rebuilding the engine stock, and if you do not have emissions checks, run a little 600 cfm 4 bbl, and put a nice exhaust on it. You might want to put a mild rv cam in it, just make sure it will bolt in with the stock non adjustable valve train. With this setup it would have good power, good manners as far as idle quality, and you could still run it on cheap 87 gas.
I already have a 650 cfm 4BBl holley and a dual exhuast with flowmaster muffler setup on it. And emissions are not a problem for me as 10000lb plates do not require emissions
