Looking at first powerstroke need advice.
B. Graves...do you know what an oil change will run you? Let me clue some folks in. An oil filter (you better get the right one because while they all look alike, there are only a couple that you should use) costs me about 13 bucks. Next add 13 quarts of oil. Your oil change happens every 5K miles unless you choose to use a synthetic oil...then your oil price goes up.
Notice that there are two batteries...takes a lot of cranking power to fire one of these up. When a battery dies...you have to replace both...not just the one bad battery because the old batt will pull down the new one quickly...and then you'll still wind up having to buy two new batteries.
Do not let me scare you off....I just want to make sure folks understand that these are not just hypped up F150s. When I bought my diesel, the price of diesel was cheaper than gasoline! THEN the price of diesel started climbing until it topped out for me at about 5 bucks a gallon. Thats a lot of money when you're filling a 30 gallon tank folks.
I love this diesel. I kept my F150...but she doesn't get driven much anymore...she's kinda the spare truck....driving this diesel is THAT GOOD!

I only wish you were speaking for the 6.4 and presume you are speaking for the 7.3 diesel.
First, a MOTORCRAFT filter, at a FORD Stealership is about $31.00 with tax.
Second, it takes 15 quarts for an oil change with a filter change.
I see you have an 2003 truck. Was the 6.0 introduced in 2003? The oil filter in the 6.0 and 6.4 are identical.

while i didnt know the exact capacity of the oil, i did know that the filters are very expensive and that the truck holds a ton of it. i also know about the 2 batteries. i have done lots of research on these trucks and the good outweighs the bad i think. i used to drive my dads 01 250 with the 5.4. i liked it but i wouldnt want another 5.4 maybe a V10. out of the V10 and the diesel, which one is more reliable?
I've got one of the first 6.0s that came off the line...something like number 618 I think it was. That's another issue...you'll hear lots of bad press on the 6.0s....you either got a good one or you got a pig...that's why that OASIS report is so critical. I got lucky...mine's been great with no powertrain issues except for a re-flash for hard starts.
I've got a 2003 F250 King Ranch Crew with the Turbo 6.0....GOD I LOVE THIS TRUCK!

I'm located in western ky 20 miles south of owensboro. Thanks for the great advice guys.
I think I had the first 6.0! I had a 6.0 in my 2003 EXCURSION. I can remember telling the FORD tech from DETROIT that came to TAMPA to look at my truck to smell the diesel smoke inside while he was driving. The mechanic from a dealership was in the back seat, he and I broke out laughing because we had to wind put the windows down to breathe. The ford guy couldn't smell anything...
My 2005 F-350 was probably like your vehicle. No problems with it. I just wanted to update for the 100,000 mile warranty, and get rid of the EXCURSION which at 35,000 miles had the death rattle, wheazing, badly. Never a problem with the 2005. Maybe one blown egr valve.
I have an appointment tomorrow to finish my recall and get the VENTURI put on my 2008.
If you think you love your 2003, please never drive a 2008 KR crew, etc., because you will be paying child support as you will get one. SO, SO , SOOO much better ride.
