Can someone tell me where this module is located on a 2000 f250 superduty its a shift on the fly. I have checked all relays, fuses, changed the switch on the dash and shift motor and there is 12v in the relay harness. I also changed hubs to manual and plugged the vacuum. I think the onl;y thing left is the module just can't find it. Thanks in advance.
Make sure your problem isnt in the shift lever like mine was, if theres some "play" in your lever it will keep the 4low from engaging when in nuetral. I have to slightly press down on my lever when its in nuetral to make it shift, changed my whole system out before I figured this out....
The only other thing that could be a problem is the switch on transfer case which tells the GEM what gear the transfer case is in.
The GEM controls the 4x4, there's no specific "4x4 module". If the switch on the transfer case is bad, the GEM won't energize the shift motor.
If you look at the transfer case, near the shift motor, there is another big connector, with something like 4 or 6 wires going to it. Did you change that?

When you change the shift motor its all one piece I beleive, I changed my shift module and thats how it was.
The shift motor (gear motor encoder assembly) is a single unit, according to my service manual.
On my truck, there IS a 4WD control module. It's behind the glove box. This MAY have changed between 2000 and 2004, though.
BTW, my service manual contains the following warning in regards to changing the control module.
CAUTION: Prior to removal of the Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) control module, it is necessary to upload module configuration information to a diagnostic tool. This information needs to be downloaded into the new module once installed.
a-rod it is a electronic shift, Krewat I think my switch on the transfer case is ok as it changes the 4x4 lights in the gauge cluster if you apply 12v to the shift motor and shift it. dchamberlain I was thinking of getting a module from the scrap yard out of a truck with the same motor and same year as I have no diagnostic tool. I hope this works.

I would think that a module out of a scrap yard would already have the configuration. But I'd make sure of the obvious things like I wouldn't get one out of a truck with a manual transmission or yours is an automatic, etc. The module takes input from a lot of places. But it seems like it ought to work.
That certainly makes things more complicated. Because I'm sure the program in the GEM would be different depending on a bunch of things, like you said your keypad number would be in there, and depending on the options on the truck any number of different programs could exist.
I wonder what year they changed that. I searched on GEM in my service manual and I don't even think it exists in my model year.
