temp here is anywhere from -25 to -35 degrees celcius so the oil gets plenty cold enough ,it is a stick shift and makes no differance if park brake is set or not. Thanks for quick reply
I don'nt hear a hissing noise, excuse the ignorance but what is the EBPV
Welcome to FTE. Don't be shy about asking questions here, even if it's in a thread you're just reading over. That's how we all learn. The EBPV is the exhaust back pressure valve. The valve closes off and increases backpressure in the exhaust stream to help the engine warm up faster.
As for the high idle, make sure the parking brake is set. Does your cruise control work, or did it stop too? Any of the position switches on the pedals can kill the high idle, and the cruise function.
Have you done anything with your air filter lately? There's a little gray sensor that plugs into the side of the air box that is part of the high idle circuit also.
EBPV - Exhaust Back Pressure Valve. The valve itslef is part of the turbo exhaust assembly. When clod, the valve closes providing a blockage to the exhaust flow which puts a bit of a load on the engine to help it heat up faster. When the EBPV actuates it creates a very noticable hissing at the tail pipe. The EBPV can be dissengaged by depressing the brake peddal.
The EBPV sensor is located on the end of a tube at the front/top of the motor. The tube is connected to the exhaust manifold. On my truck it seems the EBPV and fast idle go hand-in-hand. Just thinking that if the EBPV system is not working, perhaps it is impacting the fast idle as well.
The tube is notorious for getting clogged with soot. Search forum for details on cleaning the tube, pretty easy job.
There are also some key-on tests you can do. If I recall correctly the valve cycles once when the igniton is turned on. Once you locate the valve actuator, it is kind of tucked away under the turbo pedestal, you can have someone turn on the ignition while you watch the valve.
Thanks a lot to everyone ,fast idle problem turned out to be a sticky switch on the E brake ,which got sticky because of the water leaking into the cab via A bad windshield seal, which also leaked onto my truck computor causing all kinds of trouble like heater fan & lights with a mind of their own .I found out about the windshield leak from my first post, so once again thank you to everyone you all saved me A pile of money. The local ford dealer said they would be more than happy to hook me up to the computer try and "diagnose" all my problems . I've learned that diagnose =money .
That's great to hear. Stick around, read up on some posts, and you'll be answering questions here before you know it.
Something else you might want to consider is becoming a supporter. For $20 you can read the threads without all the annoying ads, plus it helps keep this place going. As you mentioned, you're already money ahead on the deal. What's $20?
