Thumbs up **Update**Spark plug blown out Must Read

Ok here's the whole story:
2001 F-150 2WD short bed 5.4 Triton 77,000 miles
Blew #3 spark plug out of cylinder head.......towed to Ford....They checked it and said they do not fix heads...replacement cost for new head and labor $3600.00
No I did not take that advice.....checked 6 repair shops.....Prices were for tap in threads in #3 plug, insert new insert from Timeset, change all plugs and clean up.
First shop wanted $1100.00
Second shop $413.00
Third shop $850.00
Fourth shop $950.00
Fifth shop $1300.00
Sixth shop $900.00

I went and spoke with the shop that was the lowest,
They had one mechanic that had done this 2 doxen times. They showed me the parts and assured me the work would be done right.
The work has been done, the spark plug coil needed replacement on #3 due to the blow out, and all the coil plugs.......Total $613.oo

The truck drives good................but I have seven more plugs that could still also blow out..........

I don't know what to say..............Im shocked.........this is a very bad thing........because You can not prevent it from happening???????

Pull the remaining 7 plugs, look at the threads in the head,if they look good, put the plugs back in,torque to proper specs, and let it bump....

I was pretty sure Ford had at least one approved kit that they would use, of course it still costs twice as much as anyone else. Also, I should have mentioned in the other thread, you can get a set of new PI heads for around $1200 off the net.

Yes, you can prevent it from happening. Remove the plugs at the required interval, check or replace them as needed, then torque them to specs on a cold engine and you will be fine. It's like my old man used to always scream at me and my brother every 30k miles on his truck: "Them plugs ain't gonna change themselves."
