5W-40 Really does work like you all say!

I needed to do an oil change and wanted to try 5W-40 and also a synthetic oil. The only oil I could find in my area was Rotella T in the blue bottle, $19.99 per gallon, didnt think that was bad.

I think I noticed better throttle response right away, the roads were covered in snow but it spun all 4s easily

But the main thing is, startup. Well I just used my remote start like I always do which lets the GPs burn for 45 secs before it turns over. Anything under 30* the truck sounded terrible, it always turned over but groweled really bad. I just started it and it started like it was 70* in the middle of summer! Very little smoke and MUCH quieter.

Just figured id report here since I would have never known to run 5W-40 without this site. I would def recommend it to anyone in cold climate.

Thanks!

This is why so many of us run a 5W-40 syn. I wouldn't have known to use a 5W-40 without. I run it year round.

Ditto. I'm running the Rotella too and I don't need to plug my rig in at night (mid 20's). Starts fine and doesn't lope.

The same here also....i never would have thought a different oil would have made such a big difference, but after reading about everyone else that had tried it I had to also. I don't even worry about plugging in at night anymore.

I just upgraded to 5w-40 and blame it for the sudden failure of my GPR, alternator and ecm.

I'm using it and cured my romps. Is the Rotella made by Hugo Chavez? I heard he renamed all the stations because very few were buying. Something petro is the new name.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone in this post, i switched after reading this thread and noticed a huge difference. Cold starts are much easier with the remote starter now.
