Hi, I have built a couple of v8 and i have experience, I have never built a inline 6, i have this 200cid laying around. After market for it seems a bit hard to find. I wanna make it rev till 5500 with 9.5 cr, so i want a mild cam and flat tops maybe...4bbl intakes? suggention of brands, parts, sellers? any ideas? max over bore? anyone has stock head flow numbers for stock 80 heads on these engines? whats the stock stroke , bore?
Racer Walsh is the only place that I know of to get performance parts for an inline 6, not sure if they still have anything. I've always heard the best carb setup was a tripower setup sold by them it solved the problem of #1and #6 cylinders getting enough fuel. you might also try the guys at fordsix.com.
Classic Inlines Performance Parts - Home That is THE source for SB6 Ford performance equipment plus get on the Forum and start reading. What those folks don't know about the Ford SB6 can't be known. Might also try some Mustang, Maverick sites too.
Ok read alot about them, a turbo is needed to get past 200hp, although 200 is decent for a sixie, parts ar cheap although aluminum head and manifod are a must... dont like the engine though....
Check the ford six site, there's a guy who has a lot stuff & there's also Clifford's.
The biggest problem with these motors is the head. The intake is cast-on & is rather restrictive. Australia & Argentina had the same motors with detachable intakes, but they were never sold over here. I think there's an aftermarket head that is similar to the Aussie head, but I'm not sure.
The bottom end is great, all later ('65 & later) have 7 main bearings. The downside is all inline sixes don't like high RPMs. Your goal of 5500 rpms might be a little high, make sure you have someone who really knows I6s to go through the bottom end. High RPMs are a V-engine thing.
I wouldn't do the overbore thing, these (actually, ALL modern engines shouldn't be overbored for displacement) are thin-wall castings & you'll weaken the motor for, what, 2 CI of displacement. Not worth it.
Just some thoughts.
