Carb Trouble

I have a stock (without the pollution stuff) 79 F-250 w/300six.
When I make a hard left turn (like making a U-turn) The engine will flutter and I lose power for about 10 seconds.
Do you think this is the float level being set to low or to high?
I think it is starving but not 100% sure. The engine does not die but runs rough and can not accelerate. This is a problem in traffic.
Anyone have the same problem?........bart

No, I don't have this problem but I think that you are right to be looking at the float bowl first. That seems to me to be a good place to start trouble-shooting this problem.

Has the carb been rebuilt lately? If not, then it might be time to clean the carb out, put a carb kit in there, and reset the float bowl to the proper setting.

If you just have some crud in the carb, you can use about 1/3 of a can of SeaFoam to clean it out. Just trickle it slowly into the carb with the engine running. It helps to have someone rev it a bit so that the engine does not die while you are doing this. Put the other 2/3 of the can in the gas tank. Expect to see some smoke from the exhaust. If the carb is real dirty, there will be quite a bit of smoke during the SeaFoam treatment but this is normal.

It very much sounds like a float issue to me as well. This can happen when the fuel level is too low in the bowl, and when you take a turn, the fuel sloshes to one side and the jets suck in air. Unfortunately the Carter YFA carb you probably have on there is not one that you can run with the top off to check the fuel level while it's running. You'll have to remove the top of the carburetor with the engine off and check the float height and drop.
