Bought a used 03 Excurson with the BFG Rugged Trails LRE on it. Even after alignments, the fronts will chop badly. Front end is tight, shocks are good. I want to replace the BFG's with another long lasting, even wearing tire but I dont have experience with the 3/4 ton front end. What will wear evenly and not chop with that terrible whuppa-whuppa noise?
I would like as many opinions and life experiences as possible...
The stock 365/75/16 10ply. I uess this was affected by the Firestone/Ford recall at the time. I still an knee deep in rubber, but they keep chopping. I dont like the tire noise/vibes and shaking. With as expensive as these are, ?I'd like to get the one that will last longest and not chop either. LTX ms come to mind but it loks like they are phasing them out. I like ATk/os BUT evry other review of them is either love em with 100+K or they are bald at 30k. Ugghhh1 I dont want to spend 900-1000 for tires and have them go bad in 1.5 to 2 yrs
Thanks for your help.

Reason: added thanks...
Actually 265-75-16 is what I think you meant to type. And negative on the CAI. The stock unit is good for 400-450 bhp. And as for the tire, I just bought a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers in the 265-75 E rating for 550.00 delivered. I havent put them on yet, but have heard decent things about them. We'll see how they work.
Yes, BigRy, my fat fingers mistyped. Ive been looking at those and the Hankook rm10 blah blahs. Neat designs but I still wonder if the Michelin would be the safest bet.
If not on the intake, how about exhaust? What about playing with the computer and re-adjusting the settings? More power or mpg?
Thakns for your input. I hope more people speak up too.
yes, my fingers are a little fat for my keys. I like the terra grapplers and also the Hankook rm10 blah blahs. I still wonder tho if the Michelins will be the better choice. Sure the others are less, but ?if I rpelace them at 40-50 k and get 100-110 out of the michelins, those would be the beter choice, no?
Thanks for your input, BigRy, and I hope more people share their knowledge.

Reason: the 1st listing did not show up so I retyped...
I just bought the T6 $tainle$$ 4" MBRP exhaust. I think a lot of the guys here like the MBRP, so thats who I went with. Its a little throaty on the back end of my truck. But I dont notice it until I start getting on it. And as for tinkering with the computer, I would just look into purchasing one of the many plug in programmers. I have the Superchips programmer, only becuase it only cost me 100.00 from a freind of mine, if I had money to play with, I like the SCT programmer. But I only have mine set on economy. I dont race my truck or climb big *** rocks, so I wanted to save a little on the fuel mileage. I hear you about the fat fingers too, my jimmy dean sausage figers always get in the way, too.
So it sounds like, no matter what I do - rotate 5000 miles & check air, they will chop anyway. Is that what I should expect? I will stick with the LR E tires. A local tire store suggested d's because that is what ford suggested originally and that is what his book said. I told him that during the tire fiasco, Ford put e's on these trucks & they changed their stance.
Can anyone tell me if the Michelins/Bridgestones would really be worth the extra money? Or save some green now and go with Nitto or Hankooks?
I ran a set of Bridgestones on a SuperDuty, and was not happy at all with their longevity- I dont think I made it through the second summer with them
The Bridgestone Revo's are a great tire, but the wear is horrible. I only got about 30k out of my set. I now have some Firestone Transforce A/T's. I installed them in the fall and was able to get a few tow's out of them (I have a 10k lb travel trailer) and they seemed great. Now that the snow has fallen I really love em!!!. Great traction in the snow and ice!!! I am very happy with them and they were much less $$ than the Revo's.
