Unhappy Water in fuel?

I have an 05 F350,PSD Dually and about a year ago I had to have the fuel manifold replaced. Thats what the dealer called it anyway. The water in fuel kept illuminating. It's now doing the same thing. I replaced the filters and all was good for about fifty miles then it has illuminated again. The truck is runnig great. No misses, sputtering or anything. Is there something I can pour in the tank and try first before I take it to the dealer? I'm 98% sure I don't have water for real but how would you know. I didn't see any when I changed the filters. It's four wheel drive and no picnic draining as the front drive shaft is in the way. The truck only has 27K miles on it and has been well taken care of. Any thoughts or comments?????

Well draining from that module from either a lever or plug is the best way to go. There is also diesel 911 you can pick up from a part store that you can run as regular maintenance but I doubt it will shut that light off. It might be a pain in the *** but draining it before it gets sucked into your fuel injectors would be a good idea.

Thanks for the input silentst2000. I'm going to drain it again today. Anyone else have any ideas? What and where is the fuel manifold? What does it look like? I had it replaced about a year ago for causing the same problem. Don't mean to be bothersome, just want to know. Thanks,

I don't know what a fuel manifold is but they may be referring to the HFCM. Horizontal fuel conditioning manifold. That is the device that the fuel/water drain plug is in.

The Fuel Manifold is the front cover of the HFCM.

I just drained the HCFM. Cranked it up and let it run for a few minutes and drained it again. Both times I saw what looked like a few very small drops of water. I just changed the filters last weekend. Now what? Do I keep draining it or take it to the dealer? HELP!

When you drain it, drain it into a container that you can see through. If there is water in it you will see it at the bottom of the container. If there is water in it, keep draining it until there isn't, and start buying fuel from a better supplier.

Thanks, I'll keep draining it every day this week. Maybe it will clear up. If so I think I'll go ahead and replace the filters again.

Well I think I may have fixed the problem...maybe. I've drained the HCFM several times over the past few days and the last two times I didn't see any water dropplets. I took the truck out for a short spin and the "water in fuel" light didn't come on. I think I may drain it a few more times this weekend if it warms up enough. Since I just changed out the filters I'm not sure if I should replace them again or not. Any suggestions? Oh yeah, thanks to everyone that chimed in. Your help is most appreciated!

If your old filters looked clean when you replaced them, you should be OK to keep running these new filters? If they were discolored or black, I would pull and inspect the new one again.

What brand of filters did you use?

You should only use the Motorcraft, International, Racor filters!!

Racor made the oil/fuel filter assembly on the top of your engine. It also features an integrated oil cooler which is below the oil filter.

Racor makes all these filters for the above companies, and the filters feature an aquablock medium on the primary filter (to block water, so you can drain it out). They also feature a small slit in the primary filter which must help remove air from the HFCM after a filter change. This way all the fuel saturates or goes thru the primary filter instead of just half of the filter (the filter sits horizontal)

Yes, definately find a new fuel station. I have only had my light come on twice and both times were from the same fuel station that I don't normally use
