This may make me sound like a dum-dum, but I don't know how, love all the info on the site but sometimes get myself lost. You won't happen to have an ae scan tool would you?

Yes I have an AE scan tool. Do you live near me?
Have you checked the wiring where it plugs into the valve cover gasket? How rough is your truck running, and how long have you noticed you might have a problem?
I'm in Hitchcock. Yes the valve wiring ohmed out good. It still drives ok, just idles rough, down on power, bad fuel mileage. It has been this way for a while, just been reading on this site and getting more comfortable with messing with it. Would like to get it hooked up to a scan tool to know whats going on.
The loose connectors under the valve cover are a known issue with these trucks. International came out with a set of clips that can be installed to correct this problem. Members here started playing with different types of shims to use instead of buying the clips. It was discovered that a quarter (25 cent piece) happens to be the correct thickness and diameter (if one end is trimmed) to act as a shim. That's where the 25 cent mod comes from. Here's a link that shows what a loose connector looks like, and has pictures of the quarter shim https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...ck-shakes.html
Chris is giving you the DIY info that was created when someone didn't use these clips.
