well my speedometer started to 'bounce' as i drove down the road little by little. evuntually got so it would bounce a good 30-40 mph difference. then it just stopped working altogeather. i have replaced the cable, speedometer itself, and the gear that goes into the drivetrain looks fine... cable and gear are both lubed up and easy to turn on either end.
what do i do
did that, it does. really pisses me off because EVERYONE said my speedo was shot and that was the only problem, so i went ahead and bought a instument cluster with a tach figuring that would fix it... i asked some of the same people who told me it was broken again and now they say both the new speedo and the old one is fine, then they said i needed to change (again) the cable. so i did it anyway because its only like 5$. well it still dosent work... gotta love your friends
its 2 wheel so i gotta drop the tranny to fix my speedometer? that blows... anybody know anybody in the branson area who could take a look to double check and make sure i am not missing anything... i am pretty strapped for cash and without a job so i need this truck to make me extra cash. speeding tickets dont help...
Sounds like everything sis working, and the problem is the tranny area.
If you can get a mirror and a flashlight, you could possibly eyeball the hole in the tranny, and check what the drive gear looks like, and if it's in line with the hole.
P.S. Also pull on the plastic gear a little bit while twirling it. There is the slight possiblity the cable is just a tad short, and is not engaging the speedo sometimes.
Mine did the exact same thing. Checked everything out and the drive gear in the transmission is wore in the center. From what i can tell dropping just the tailshaft would gain access to it.
ok put drill on speedo gear and the gauge registered and held very steady.... bit the bullit and took it to a friend's friend's uncle's mother's twice removed cousin's transmission shop... he thought it was the gear, even though i told him about the drill, untill he hoisted it up and took a look at it.. turns out it is the internal gear and it is broken off and rattling around. diddent charge me for diognosis but said he'd fix it for about 135-150.... sounds a little high to me but i'm afraid to get in over my head fixin this myself! dont get me wrong i love you guys but if i screw up i'm in deep ****... i really need this truck to make me a little money on the side but then again i dont need the tickets...
What transmission do you have? Looking at my T18 it would seem pretty easy to do and I plan to when the weather warms up (no garage). I never looked at that part of any automatic transmission however.
ok sorry to bump an old thread but i have found out that i have a T-18 transmission and it is part number 31 on this diagram.... now i am having trouble finding the new part and how hard will it bee to get the old one off... i know i have to pull the drive shaft and the back of the tranny off.... will everything be self explanitory? or is there a trick to it?
