Hey at least your truck runs.
One of mine hasnt run for a month and the other one runs so crappy I dont dare go more that a few mles from home with it.
And ive spent a fair amount of time and money on them.
I was talking to a friend once about a new set of tires I had just got. I told them they had a 40K mile warranty on them. He laughed and said "yeah, and with the way you drive you should get a least 20K out of them.
Point is, I know it's fun to whip these big beast around like a sports car but you have to think weighing in at 7000 lbs. that can be very hard on things like tires, brakes, and ball joints.
most of my driving is highway miles and i havnt really been towing much lately, a few cars here and there, the worst load was the 2500 cummins and i do beleive that was the sownfall to the brakes on the truck...... had it on a slighty undersized trailer and the trailer brakes were not enough to stop it, my truck did all the work. thank god for exhaust brakes.
there has been no real offraoding, just around the house in the fields for work and hunting. i did jump it one day pretty good over a berm and another time over a really big set of bumps but thats the only 2 times the truck has been really abused. the rest is highway miles to work. i thrash hmmwv's at work to play in
Just a word of caution here on the break pads and shoes, buy the cheap ones, them new ceramic and metal impregnated styles that are out there are not a good choice for our trucks, think about it, there designed to run hotter and wear even longer so what happens? our discs and drums get smoked and then ya gotta buy everything! pretty shrewd marketing there if ya ask me..... Buy the cheapie shoes/pads and just checkem a little more frequently!! I'd rather change brake pads once a year than discs and drums as well!! jmho

Slick!!
I got a set of the cheapest brake pads I could find for a car I had and after getting them in I took it for a test drive that included getting on the brakes hard about five times in one mile. When I got to the beach I could smell something burning so I got out of the car and I could see the smoke coming from the brakes. The brand new pads were freaking SMOKING like a three
alarm fire. When I got home and pulled the wheels to take a look the rotor was blue from the heat and the new pads were cracked. Took the pads back to the dealer for a refund and got some Bendix Titaniums for about twice the price and they survived the same test drive and lasted a long time. You get what you pay for and getting cheap when it comes to something like brakes when you do any kind of heavy towing sounds like a bad idea.
pads vary greatly, it all depends on what you buy. i put the cheapest set of front pads on my mustang from pepboys. at the time they cost me 11 bucks. so cheap they came in a white box with no pictures, just a part number. those lasted a long time on a car that ran 11.0's on street tires and got driven daily.

11 bucks!!!??? And they worked!!?? Wow, I guess you got lucky and I didnt. Odviously if you go cheap its a crap shoot and brakes just sound like a place where you want to take chances. But I know what its like. Some times you have to do what you have to do to stay on the road. Maybe Ill try the pepboys ones next time. Good luck
