Aftermarket 4x4 engagement setup

Is there anything out there that you can replace the vacumn controlled shift actuator with? Like a cable that you can just pull up on, that would move the shift fork into 4x4 on the front axle tube? I know they make it for the earlier Chevy's. Just looking for a more reliable "positive engagement" alternative.

I'd sure prefer the vacuum system but here's what you're interested in.

I would prefer it for the convenience and thats all. I have been lucky with mine, but there seems to be a lot of issues with vacumn lines breaking and getting holes in them. When I get stuck in the snow in zero temps, I want to be able to feel comfortable knowing I can engage 4x4 and drive away.

................. as long as the internal shift fork is operable. I see your point but it would seem to me that the internal shift mechanism would be more forgiving of the vacuum actuator.
