I am having a problem with my 2002 F250 XLT PSD. When i have the light swithc in the off position and it gets near dusk the lights will click on and off. If i turn the lights on they stay on but I can still hear the clicking. If I turn the ligths to auto then they still click on and off. Also when this happens I tend to have issues with my door locks. What do you suppose is casing this?
I can not find anything that would cause the two of them.. IF you can,, remove the light switch, check the connections there.. also look for signs of water.. The control shows to be right on the switch proper.. if they are not loose, and no water.. attempt to replace that first.. If you can see water signs.. well then we start something else..
From the Haynes manual "Carefully pry the switch assembly from the instrument panel" this by the way is the whole 2"x2" cover.. it is not the switch proper..
ummm ... 2002 ... light problems..... door locks intermittent......
Classic 2002 original VSM problem... your going to have to get a new VSM and the dealer has to read the old one, reflash the new one with the data and then install it.
I had the VSM problem 3 years ago but the problem will manifest itself it many ways. With mine, the fob would work sometimes, othertimes they would do nothing at all. A new VSM took care of the problem. I was able to save a few bucks at the dealer by purchasing my own VSM. removing the center dash so it could be accessed, mounting the new VSM on the firewall and hooking up the old one to the connectors and leaving it sit on the transmission hump when I took it in. They still charged me for 1 hr labor for 10 minutes of work.
The VSM is located just behind the radio, mounted on the firewall with 3 multi-wire connectors.
I am looking in the haynes manual.. What is the VSM.. [I] see nothing that relates these two itemss.. This is by no means that I a am questioning you and your experience.. I just hate not knowing ( or seeing) the relationship..
