I straight piped mine, it just cost me more in fuel. Love the sound it makes. Kinda wakes up the folks I'm passing too.

Does anyone know if New Jersey inspection requires a muffler to pass?

Yes it does, the state does your inspections and they are strict.

So what you're saying is use the clamps to put the muffler delete pipe on instead of welding it?

hmmm...i didn't think about any inspections. Here in South Carolina we don't have inspections, so you can do almost anything you want to your vehicle.

Was told not to.

A mechanic in my area said that it wouldn't do a thing to my EGT readings by removing the muffler. Said I shouldn't worry about the temps either. He has been in the business for many years and as far as I know hasn't steered anyone wrong. Don't want to be the first. I have a 99 F350 DRW and am pulling a 43ft Toyhauler. I keep feathering the throttle to keep the egt's below 1100 climbing. Have a programmer set for 100+ HP.

Yeah your mechanic sounds like one of my local mechanics that everything from the factory is great and Superchips is the best thing out there. A free flowing exhaust and a good cold air intake will net you 200-300 degree drop in EGTs.

Rod, your machanic knows what he knows. He is wrong about lowering your EGTs. Let more air in and let the air out will be a big benefit. What programer do you have? You should not pull that load with a 100 HP programer. Tell us more.

JD, your post is right on. I would think that Jody knows enough about our trucks to help this guy. He sure helped me last weekend.

Yeah i was talking to one of my mechanics about it and he said regardless of the inspection issue, do it any way. It is much better for your truck in different ways. One it is able to breath more, and the second reason he said is because of the drop in EGT's that he will notice. He said he recommended welding it though and that there are ways around the inspection issue.

Is there going to be any difference between in it being welded or it being slid on the pipes and clamped?

No difference what so ever. As long as he welds it right. The difference is you can take it apart with the clamps. I had to take mine apart a few times to get my down-pipe right. But that is a whole nother story. lol.
