need some help guys, i've got an 06 f-250 w/ the 5.4 v8, i just noticed i have a slight tick sound coming from the engine, pretty sure its on the passenger side, sounds like a lifter i think, i'm not sure, i run amsoil 5w-30 and their filter and i after hearing the tick i changed it again and i'm hoping it will solve the problem, at first i thought manifold but its there all the time so now i'm thinking lifter problem, i used my stethloscope and i've pinpointed the area its coming from but i'd like your guys opinion, i think i'll keep running it and see if it gets worse and if it does i'll fix it myself, i just dont want to, i mechanic as a daily job and the last thing i want to do when i get home is work on my stuff so if it isnt something that needs done right away i'm gonna wait, by the way its got almost 40,000 miles on it, but anyway, is there anything i'm overlooking and what's the proper course of action, i might try some lucas oil stabilizer, maybe it might help, i dont know, hope you guys can help. thanks

 

Look for missing or loose studs on the manifold and/or black soot on the head.

 

If you do do it you will need the OTC #7928 spring compressor. Without it its virtually imposibly to get the rocker arm out. Just a heads up.
