another seat to matress conversion idea!!

alrighty now this one i was thinkin about for some time i have an idea but i also have some questions ok, custom making a bracket for a bench seat in a regular cab pickup (the one in my above picture) that slides forward to allow the back cusion to lie flat making the the seat twice as wide. i am sure i can design brackets and suff but i was wondering if it was legal or safe??

any input or thoughts are good with me!

I understand what you are trying to do, but how would the seat lay totally flat in a regular cab to be a bed? Even with custom brackets I'm not sure it would fit.

just like the old Ramblers. You moved the front bench totally forward, flipped a lever to release the back, which reclined flat to meet the back seat and you had an instant queen size bed!

Talk about a killer drive-in movie car.....

A conversion van is a full size van that has been outfitted with a more luxury "ambience." They usually have a bench seat in the back that folds down into a bed. You've seen them for sure. They are the vans that have the tall windows on the side with blinds or shades, and the plastic ground effects with the '80s wheels, and stripes and other graphics from front to back.

Ford, Chevy, and Dodge make them. Dirt cheap on the used car market. Nobody wants one except the first goof that bought it!

Ford, chevy and dodge don't make them I don't think, they make the vans and another company converts them isn't it?

Yeah, but they are sold off the lot new at the dealerships. You'd still search Autotrader by truck brand. Or uh... so I hear... I'm not, um... admitting to have ever looked at them.

not sure what years but i looked at a 2000 something f350 crew cab that had an electric rear seat that with a push of a button would lay flat. maybe that would work for.

I knew it!!!!! LOL!

I think it would take a complicated set of rollers to slide the lower portion further forward. It is my opinion that this wold jeopardize the integrity of the seat and therefor render it unsafe.

What happens if it were to suddenly "flop out" after hitting some bumps at 60 mph? Or a panic stop? You could easily slide under the seat belt and wind up compacted under the dash.

Fun idea, but not practical in the eye of safety.
