2004 7.3l?

My dad is looking for a 7.3L and he ran across this. How can it be a 2004 7.3L?
2004 FORD F-250 F250 LARIAT PLATINUM ED 4X4 7.3L DIESEL
Thanks,

2004 were all 6.blow's. Nice looking truck. Front end looks like a Y2K model.

A little info...there is an Austraila user on here that has a 2004 (or 2005) with a 7.3...says they were still shipping/selling them there until last year. But...also, I have a 2001 Platinum Edition and my understanding was that 2001 was the only year they sold the Platinum Edition...and they were all (or almost all) sold in Texas. So...finding a Platinum Edition in Texas wouldn't be rare...but I kind of doubt the 2004 thing.

They offered the 7.3 in 2004 overseas, but in the US, the 6.0 was introduced to meet emissions standards. The P in the 8th position of the vin means this truck has the 6.0 motor. If they try and tell you a 7.3 was dropped in somewhere along the way, just ask them to send you pictures under the hood. A picture would tell you really quick what motor is there.

It's got '04 King Ranch wheels and if you look at the emblems on the doors, they are the same as the body color. That would lead me to think that the top half color is the OEM color, and that they 2-toned it similar to a Platinum Edition by re-spraying that lower portion.

No matter what, I call BS on this dealership's ad.

Chris,

If you click on the pictures and scroll down, there are pics of the engine under the hood and it's a 7.3L. I just don't think it's a 2004. The headlights and dash set up is a 2001 or older.

Just scrolled down through the pics and it's a 7.3, and the wheels are Harley wheels, not KR's. It *could be* and 01 Platinum edition, but no way an '04 unless they exported an '04 from Australia back to here.... yeah...

EDIT: Good catch on the dash & headlights Chris!

If it exported back to the states from down under, the steering wheel would be on the right side.

I tend to agree with aocabrown. I've never seen a retro-fit front end. The headlights do not have the clear lenses (I think the term used was diamond cut). They started using those in 2002 (through 2004 until they changed to the 9008 lights in 2005). From 1999 to 2001 they had the opaque lenses you see there. Based on that information and the fact that the Platinum was only a Texas truck in 2001 and I think you got a typo. The 7.3 was discontinued in early 2003 (2003.25) in favor of the 6.0 small block in the United States.

My money is on it being a 2001 Super Duty and that it's either a typo or intentional misrepresentation.

The pictures look almost exactly like my interior except I have a digital odometer. Did the Platinum come with 'Lariat' stitched into the seatbacks?

Also, the 7.3 coolant is green. I think that's the coolant that needs SCA. Prior to '03 they switched to the ELC stuff (I think '02) because I don't need any SCA.

My money is still on it being a 2001 rig.
