Bypass the remote not working while engine running "feature"

My truck is one of those with the annoying "feature" that prevents you from using a keyless entry remote to lock/unlock the vehicle while it is running. Makes me worry while I let my truck warm up in some areas. Does anyone know if there's a wire I can cut or any way to get around that "feature"?

Use the 7/8 9/0 buttons on the keyless entry module to lock it and your 5 diget code to unlock it.

I only have the remote... and the keypad is only a remote with numbers. Thats the reason why I haven't done my switch to keyless door handles and put the keypad on the doors yet.

May not have that on a 99

n/m yeah, you have to have a wired one to do that.

doesn't look like there is a way to bypass it, part of the GEM

My 01 was the same way, but my 04 has the abillity to use the remote with the truck running. I prefer the newer way, but it still makes me feel uneasy when I lock it with the engine running. So I usually have an extra key that I take with me. OCD I guess.

It sounds like you need to install a remote start. It will allow for warm ups, but the key will not be in the ignition, the doors will be locked and if you touch the brake pedal to put it in drive without the key in the engine will shut off.

The remote start was something else I was considering but I just wanted to see if it was a possibility to get rid of that "feature" or whatever. Woulda been a cheaper alternative.

Might be cheaper, but when your truck is covered with the white stuff and it's 5:30 in the morning and your enjoying a cup of coffee in your draws it sure is nice to push the button on your remote and listen to your V10 come to life and your still in your draws having that cup of coffee wondering if you remembered to leave the heater on high.

If your handy with wiring, a RS isn't all that expensive. I would get one with an integrated alarm though, no sense in doing half the job. DEI makes a handful and some are pretty cheap (compared to other like my compustar). Like above, they are very handy for the purpose you looking for.

I've been wondering about a remote start for my Truck. I've been concerned that it wouldn't work for me because I have the KARR 4040a keyless upgrade module package installed. I will look into DEI. They seem to have a large selection. Maybe there is something available that will work with my setup.

DEI OOPS!

DEI has bought up a lot of companies. However they aren't the choice. I really like my compustar, the two way remote and alarm is much nicer than the code alarm I used to have.

With your 02, you shouldn't have a problem integrating a remote start unless the upgrade removed the stock VSM. The VSM handles the factory keyless and you just need to tap couple of wires for door locks and door sense. The rest of the connections go the column and engine bay.

That recall was mainly for manual Trans installations and garage kept vehicles. The brain would go into programming mode and there was a possiblity that an unwanted RF signal could start the motor. On the manual transmissions, you must shut the vehicle down in the right sequence in order to restart it, this was overriding that safety feature. The other side was in a garage, if the vehicle unwantedly started, CO would build up. If you have an automatic trans or keep it in a sealed garage, and still have the old brain, you could have problems. However with the new software, this problem should be eliminated.

Sorry for butting in here Brice...

ReAX,,,

I think that's going to be the snag for me. The KARR module is integrated into the factory keyless sysem. I won't throw in the towel yet. I will look into the Compustar and DEI to see if there might be any hope. I can certainly live without remote start, but I do know I would get some good use out it.

That KARR module is an aftermarket alarm. So it should be as simple as adding a remote start only to an output or replacing the KARR 4040a with a new RS/Alarm combo. The Factory VSM should be unmolsted and ready to accept a couple of wire taps for a new system.

DEI has models of just RS, I think mainly in the Valet line. It has a programmable input to active the RS, I've heard of it using two door lock pulses, but using an available AUX out would make it nicer.

I believe I follow the basics of what you're saying in it's simplest form, but I am curious about the AUX OUT? AUX OUT from the Truck system or RS system? Curious also of what would "make it nicer"?
