Well Pop, since I was sitting on a busy road with a truck that wouldn't start I wasn't thinking of getting on FTE and posing the question at that moment. Especially when it appeared to me that it was probably the CPS because of the symptoms. I posed the question to the forum after I was told that it was the PCM and I just wanted opinions. I don't consider you comment rude but I just want you to know the order of events.

Steve, how did they verify the CPS was OK? Still a little skeptical on the diagnosis of that. did they swap it out or just pull codes? Just things that you might want to ask them.

I'd sure ask the tech to show you that there's at least power to the PCM. He likely hooked up his scanner, saw no communication, and said "Dead PCM". Which it is.

What Chris and Brenden said above makes good sense.

Found the part# - 1821720C99

Steve - have a look at THIS THREAD comparing the "New & Improved" Grey CPS vs. the "Old style" Black CPS.

Personally, I've walked in to dealership service bays to get to my vehicle when I knew or strongly suspected they were being idiots. One shop wanted to put my truck up on a 7,000lb rated lift to do an oil change!! IDIOTS!!

Tell them to park it outside and you'll tow it home tonight when you get off work. Then poke around and see if you can figure it out yourself. You can get a PCM for less than $100 so I wouldn't let them do anything else until you are sure what the problem is.

First off I want to say that this forum is the reason I modified my truck as much as I have. The information I've gotten here has been priceless and today has been no different. You guys rise to the occasion and always help wherever you can. Most of my mods I did myself because of information from here. I felt I needed to man up here and tell you all that I've moved up a notch on the idiot scale. Let me elaborate...My last call with the service rep ended with him going to check with the service tech about my chip. During the call he had stated that he noticed something resembling a chip on the floor of my truck. I told him that I've got no idea what that could be without a better description. 45 minutes later he calls me back. He says, "Didn't you notice that your chip was laying on the floor?" Hmmmmmmmmm.....No. "Didn't you look for it when your truck wouldn't start?" Hmmmmmmmmmm....No. Well guys, my DP-Tuner switch had dislodged itself from the cable and fallen to the floor. We all know that will definitely stop the engine. No if, ands, or buts. I did not notice this.
In my defense, what little there is, I have relocated my DP-Tuner switch from the gauge pillar to the right of the steering column where it is visually blocked by the steering wheel most of the time. I'm sure that in my haste to be out of fast moving traffic as fast as possible it didn't even occur to my feeble mind to look at the switch. If I had I would have noticed it missing from the cable and laying on the floor.
Bottom line: service tech reattached switch to cable, truck starts every time with no error codes and I'm an idiot.
Again I want to thank all of you who posted. It was because of you that I continued to ask the service rep questions about how they were testing the PCM and about properly disconnecting/reconnecting the chip from PCM.
I think there is a lesson here somewhere and I'll figure it out eventually. But then again.....Maybe not!

That's good news Steve. The lesson here is ask knowledgeable questions and you can save yourself $1,100. I'm sure after replacing the PCM and it not starting, someone would have noticed the loose switch, hooked it back up, and you would have never know you didn't need a new PCM.

You're right Pop, but it's "piece of mind" money at this point.

I'd give them maybe $50, tops. If they saw that piece laying there and didn't think to ask you what it was, or where it might have come from.... lazy and/or stupid on their part.

At least it was a simple fix, and you're back on the road. I'm glad I've never had a stupid moment...
