just installed a 5 position chip on my 2001 f350 7.3. originally purchased a 40 hp chip from BTS a while back. sent chip back to BTS and had a switch with 4 more tunes installed, 80 econ, 100 race, 100 smoke, and high idle. after installing engine seem to be making funny marble like sounds coming from bottom of motor. removed chip all together and truck sounds and runs great. What is wrong???
If I were you I would call BTS and talk to Cale. See what he thinks.
It could be a number of things from fuel, to oil, to timing, to injector health, etc. A well tuned chip shouldn't cause the engine to make too much extra noise. Mine gets a bit louder on some of the higher HP tunes when the engine is cold. Once the engine warms up, they all sound pretty much the same.
I'm with Curtis on this one...call BTS and see what they say. I have the DP tuner on mine and the truck sounds the same in all the tunes except for 140 Aggressive. It's a little louder, but still runs smooth.
I know when i push the button on my DP, switching from different selection of tunes, i hear the engine get louder when i up the setting, lower the setting, it gets quieter.. Somebody here a week ago had a clip of himself in his truck going thru the settings on his DP, noticable change the way the motor sounded. I'll see if i can find it.
