Header Headaches - Continued

I am going to post this a couple places, so Ken I hope you will forgive me. But really want some feedback ASAP.

Scene. Several of grown men standing in a shop around a 1967 F-100 2wd, with built up 390 (E-Brock Heads) scratching their heads. In part #1 I found out that my Dyno"junk" headers won't seal because header ports are lots smaller than 2" High head ports. So I order Sandersons -#FF427, only after re-assurance from them that this application will fit fine in my '67 Truck, and thinking I'll also solve starter clearance problems.

Sandersons arrived, took them out of box, laid on the copper gasket that is a perfect match to the heads, and the tops of headers are like 1/2" to 5/8" lower than gasket. Plus they sent me Two drivers side headers! I am sending them back. The passenger side went on, but the collector was like 1/4" from oil pan, so I would've traded One heat sink for another (mechanic thinks it would have fried oil pan gasket). And I would have had to cut and grind holes to get ports a little closer to match (meaning restricted top & bottom -instead of just top)

So, now I'm trying to decide on another brand. Hedman Elites (89810)seem OK, however that have an ominous footnote #138, "not for Camper Special or vehicles with front anti-sway bar" - Whats up with that?

I don't have Camper Special, but I do have a front sway bar (though not stock, it's a H/D upgrade). But I can't think of any reason for the headers to conflict with sway bars.

I'm also going to go back into my folder an look at Stans, and Headers by ED. I am so ready for this "Headerache" to be over. Trevor the CACWBY in WI.

I dont know if Doug Thorley makes headers for your application, but my friend got Thorleys for his Chevy and he was very impressed with them. They are not cheap though.

I was very happy with the Hedman Elites on my '86 460. If the sway bar is an upgrade, maybe be willing to removing it. On a light duty truck, you may find you really don't need it.

Good luck...

Problem resolved for now. I did find application from Thorleys' but they looked exactly like the Dynomax ones I can't use. And as part of reason I didn't go with Headmans in this months issue of American Rodder (I subscribed before it was sold, however I am getting used to new version) as an article on sealing headers, and the leaky ones they use are Hedmans. So I took them off list. Plus I want the sway bar, because ... well, ...it looks Kool!!

So I did talk to the nice man (Stan) at FPA (Ford Powertrain Applications) who was very reassuring - they only have Ford stuff, and he told me things I wanted to hear, and $600.00 later I think I'm a happy camper - we'll see, he can't ship until a week from Thursday. I'll post results for sure. Trevor the CACWBY in WI. (The Console is in!!!)
