300 Exhaust

I have been wanting to change the exhaust on my 1990 F-150 truck for a while now. It has the dual exhaust manifolds and factory exhaust with cats. I was thinking about putting on one of those DynoMax Mufflers and running 3" pipe out to the stock location.
Would this be possible?
Do you recomend a different muffler?
What are the drawbacks to leaving the cats and removing them?
A friend told me that it wouldn't run right if you take them off, it will smoke, I don't believe this is tru but please inform me.
I want to run the 3" exhaust rather than duals or something.

Thanks.

300 Exhaust

hey there, a 3" exhaust might be a bit too big for a stock motor, 2.5" should be plenty big enough. as far as muffler choices go, anything will fit, but its after that its personal opinion, some say flows, others say dynomaxes, w/e, those dynos should sound pretty good. with the cats, if you live where they test emmisions, leave em on there, they make it a lot quiter, but you kinda need em. or you can go with an aftermarket hi-flow cat as the first and hollow out the second so it at least looks stock.
