Please help! F250 4X4 Question!
I have an 88 F 250. WHen I lock in the hubs and use 4hi.....I will hear a growling noise for 3-10 seconds that will actually slow the truck and then it will go away...... only happen again at an un expected time. When I have the hubs locked in and I am in 2hi.......same thing........
When I am in 2hi and the hubs are unlocked.......No Problem!
Any Idea's would be sincerly appreciated

sounds front end related..
could be bad ujoints (dry/worn).. might also be bearings in the axle..
kinda hard to tell with just a couple of sentences on the internet if u know what i mean..
have u tried to spin ur front driveshaft by hand and see how it feels, hear what happens???
also try spinning the stub axles by hand, with the tires turned.. see how they feel..
other then that u kinda need to see inside the pumpkin or pull the bus to go further..

Moved to the 87-96 forum.
Could be a bunch of things. U-joints, bearings in the front differential, etc.
I'd lock the hubs, leave it in 2HI and turn the front driveshaft by hand and see if there's any slop in any u-joints (both in the driveshaft, and the axles) or in the differential gears.
