i have a 1979 ford f150 4x4 351m and i had someone put an exhaust on it and i have been having problems ever sence, first he put me on a flowmaster with 3in pipe but im getting to much of a blowing sound, its not the lound hot rod rumble im looking for so i took it back and he put a different muffler on and its still not the sound im looking its way to quiet and to much of a blowing sound so am i going to have to go with a glasspack to get the old hot rod rumble sound or go with no muffler
Ive always liked the sound of glasspacks. Reletively in-expensive and lots of sound. Or you can go with a cherrybomb. I don't recomend going no muffler. The only time you will prolly ever get away with that is if you are on yer way to the muffler shop
are you talking about a blowing sound like an exhaust leak?
yes, glasspacks are great. on my truck I have the Flowmaster 10 series. it's a single chamber muffler. I love it. since they don't sell them anymore when I redo my exhaust I'll probably get some Cherry Bomb Extremes.
Sounds like maybe a blockage somewhere in the system if its making a blowing sound. That would cancel out the rumble of any muffler. You can't beat the sound of a flowmaster.
i may be a odd ball but i hate glass packs in my opinion they are just loud rattles and sound cheap i like a good deep tone like flowmaster , my 2wd has those round turbos that most muffler shops sell with the 2 1/2 pipe but i will say glasspack belong on a truck and never on a car not taking away from anyone on here just voicing my likes and dislikes

EXACTLY,,,,,,,I think that the flowmaster is the best sounding muffler,,, I really love the old 40 series 2 chamber ones,,,,and like most mufflers I believe the older/ more used ones get better sound,,,,and thats definatly the case with glasspacks,,,,,and for the price ya cant beat them,,,,,,,,MIGHT BE SOME TYPE OF BLOCKAGE SOMEWHERE BUDDY,,,,,TAKE A LOOK AROUND----DONT HAVE IT ON BACKWARDS DO YA ,,,,,,JUST A THOUGHT????????????
A 4 inch case? :/
I thought it was 5 inch. :)
Oh well. :)
45" long tho, I use it like a piece of exhaust pipe. ;)
I made a rubber hanger and used a 4 inch clamp around the body of the
muffler, just like it was exhaust pipe. :) I thought it was 5 inch tho. ;)
If you're looking for a "cherry bomb" that's not-restrictive-inside with louvers
and other sorts of cheap looking crap inside... then this one's for you. ;)
I looked through a bunch of 'em and when I looked through a short version
of this one (at a hot rod shop) I went straight to the counter with it and
asked if they made it in 48 inches...
"nope, 45 inches ;)"
"sold. :)"
It's "like" looking through a piece of 2+1/2" pipe.
BTW, it's not loud really but I do set off car alarms ever'once in a while. :)

are you still running a Y pipe?...that would be the problem, and also the 3" pipe is too big for a street truck unless you have 500hp, run dual flowmasters, w 2 1/2 piping, that will give you the sound you want.

Ive got a 2 1/2 cherry bomb thats waiting to go on my truck's stock exhaust. Ive seen it done with stock exhaust and it sounds nice. I don't have the money for a new system. But I gotta wait till im 18. Dad won't let me put it on. Says its ********* it up. Won't say what word I starred out, but it is very derogitory especially coming from someone of caucasion ethnic background. Id definatly go cherry bomb if you don't like flows. Nice thing is Cherry bombs are cheap.
PS: Maybe ill put my cherry bomb on my Hot rod Lawn mower... But thats a whole different forum.
Y pipes mellow out the sound but help make tourque. Glasspacks are definately a regional thing that I don't get. Around here mean trucks and muscle cars run Flowasters and glasspacks are for homeboys with hydros. Just my opinion.
I used to have flowmasters on my truck and they sounded great. When I redid the exhaust I put cherrybombs on. They are loud and proud!! I have mine exiting out the sides in front of the rear wheels.
