there is one other muffler I would run other then flowmaster (or force..cheap version) would be what are called turbo tubes...yeah, kinda like a glasspack, but not..aluminum bodied shell looks like glasspack, but then has4 or 5 large crimps that go all the way around the body. Back in highschool, I ordered a set, jegs sent the wrong ones, and sent a new set free, never had to return the others so like any broke sophmore kid would do, instead of saving to have the exhaust system done, I used the turbo tubes back to back on my 66 plymouth belvedere 4dr Dad gave me...old 318 sounded mean as hell...lol
If it is a blowing, air rushing sound, I would definately look at your cat-conv, I hear trucks all the time that sound like they are an air hose, and I actually stopped one guy in a parking lot and told him, he said it started sounding funny to him also. Saw him about a week later, and he said new cat fixed it all, drives like a new truck..
"blowing, air rushing sound... look at your cat"
"that sound like they are an air hose" ...BTHeardT too :)
What can get into the catalytic converter that can plug it up like that?
Oil fumes from an oil using engine?
What?
Hmmm... it's used up inside and so no longer getting hot and burning
the fumes up, like it should, so gets plugged up instead? :) {shrug}

ps- Factory valve seals are crap. Seems like every brand was that way.
pps- My '91 70k 5.8L uses -way- more oil than my 80k+ 360FE rebuild
ppps- The 360FE can go 7k easy but I change the 15w50 Mobil1 at 6k.
in my 90, f 150 the honeycomb inside started to break apart and cloged the outlet on the cat and gave the air sound, also gave poor performence. took it off and shook out all the junk.

Oooo... yeah that's it! :)
One time I took an old catalytic converter (I'd found) to the scrap yard and
the guy shook it and said it wasn't "worth anything". I believed him he's a
good guy and can be trusted, known 'im for years. It sounded like there was
a teaspoon of course sand in it. :) ...there was a screen preventing it from
coming out easy.
I was asking about the value hoping for big bucks see? :)
Since it's "magnetic" stainless steel, it wasn't worth weighing, just like zinc
at the time. I'd throw zinc on his zinc pile and he'd give me aluminum 2100
and 2150 carbs off that same pile. :)
A muffler shop showed me an easy way to check if the cat is bad. He took two digital thermometers and placed them against the exhaust at opposite ends. If the temps are the same, then the cat is good. If the temp is hotter in front of the cat than the rear, the cat is bad.
isnt the 10 series the same thing as the one chamber?
yeah, the 10 series is a single chamber, but I wanna keep the sound of Flowmaster. also I don't trust everything off of Ebay. plus my gonna be uncle works at IMCO/Cherry Bomb so he could hook me up with some exhaust if needed.
Sounds like maybe a blockage somewhere in the system if its making a blowing sound. That would cancel out the rumble of any muffler. You can't beat the sound of a flowmaster.
blockage if there was a blockage were would it be in the y pipe?
Oh well then.. i take that back. My glasspacks arent offbrand. they are IMCOs.
my chevy buddy just put a 2 series- 10 Flows on his Ext cab 350. They are turue duals, go thru the cats and all the way back to the back bumper. IT SOUNDS AWFUL!!! it sounds like it has no back pressure. the muffs POP like firecrackers under ANY throttle except idle. i dont know what they did wrong but his Flow 10 series sound awful.
78Ranger_GARedNeck, is your buddies truck carbed? my truck pops through my Flowmaster sometimes if you're coasting down a hill off the accelerator and letting the RPMs fall down...........you said you got new exhaust, right? didn't you say that they are 18" IMCOs? my buddy has a 12" IMCO on his 97 F150 5.4L. if it's idling it sounds stock. when you drive it it sounds a little different, but not very much. of course his truck isn't gonna be as loud as a 78 with true duals and a 351M.

If you install a crossover tube you will eliminate the popping through the mufflers.
76 F350 460 WITH DUAL 3'' INTO SINGLE CHAMBER FLOWS DUMPED IN FRONT OF REAR AXLE SOUNDS GOOD AT AN IDLE/CRUISE UNTILL YOU WOT IT Friends 72 f250 w/ 390 has 2 1/4 duals into a set of smittys sounds the same as mine at an idle untill you get on it then it has a meduim rap and rumble to it
My buddies is a 99 Silverado. shes got the fuel injected 350. Its pops BAD and sounds terrible under accel.
Ya mines got thoses 18s and the cats have been long gone. Theyre loud as hell. There is no resemblence with the stock. I had a single glasspack on mine before this. The stock muff got rusted out and i simply replaced it with a glasspack. It sounded pretty much stock. Maybe its the duals??
