I have a 2000 Expy, 4x4, 28K miles. When I start it in the morning after it has been sitting for a couple days and I put it in reverse to back out of the garage, it feels like the tranny is slipping. I have to really give it some gas to back out but I have to step on the gas more than usual. Once it warms up its fine in reverse and forward. I live in Wisconsin so it is cold in the mornings but I've never had a car that does this. I had the tranny fluid and filter changed last week thinking maybe that would cure the problem but it still does the same thing. Any ideas? Is this normal? Cant imagine there is tranny issues with only 28k miles on it?
Maybe it's not a tranny issue. Your brakes could be dragging and causing the need for the extra power until they loosen up a bit. Next time when you park it in the garage, put the truck in neutral and see if you can push it. Then let it sit overnight and do it again. This can give you an idea by comparison if there is excessive drag or not when it's cold.
My transmission slipped after I had the fluid and filter changed. I added a small bottle of factory anti-slip differential fluid. Problem fixed and has not returned in approximately 1 year. Do not get this stuff on you! Pour right in the transmission dipstick tube. $7?
