I just sold a set of 5 12" wide Spectra rims with like new Avenger GT 50's on them because they were just to wide for my 150 and they didn't have the right back spacing so they stuck out almost 6" from the wheelwell, the problem I had wasn't the rims but the tires I couldn't get rims to fit my truck that would let me run those tires(at least in the front) and couldn't get a front tire that would be the same hight but a little thinner that matched the rear so I sold them on CL and put a set of factory ford alloys on that I traded a lawnmower for. With that tire size on the rear you won't be able to carry a lot of weight in the rear on a rough road it will be in your rear fender.
thought i'd add a quick side note.....
McCormick Racing tires SUCK
arrived at the parking lot to a flat tire.... the american racer tire has never went flat on me, the other wheel has a McCormick tire on it, the second McCormick tire i might add the first one was shot in about 2 days. that wheel has given me constant flat tires. perhaps they are a good dirt track tire, but even still i'm not picking rocks out out of the center tread of the AR tire.... just thought i'd throw that out there
i dunno. they stick out a little too far for my likeing. how much distance is there between the tire and the leaf?
when you say leaf do you mean the back leaf springs or the rear fender? they stick out appromixately 4in past fender, here's a pic of how far from the springs, my hand is right up against the tire
ok bought the cooper cobra GT tires size 295/50/r15 and they ride and look great. was told the 295 would not fit, they appear to fit nicely to me. paid 200 cash for the tires and mounting/balance. appears to have dropped the back slightly from stock heigth.. not to excited about that, but over all i think i found the right thing for me. my only issue is i wish they were taller... still stick out wide and ride ausome!!!!
thanks again for all the support you guys and N50 apparently is the magic word to these guys. feel free to ask any more questions will be happy to answer them.
You could have perhaps found some 60 series tires or maybe 70's they would have been taller but not sure if they make them that wide. Usually you had to go into a racing tire for the wide and high profile, seems the wider they made them the shorter they came. All in all, if your pleased with the ones you got, cool. If not, maybe when these wear out you can try to locate a taller profile.
dont know if anyone still cares but here's a few pics of the final tires... the Cooper Cobra GT's
i have 5 1/4' clearance from the fender and about 5 from the leafs....
thanks for all the support guys!
Edit: next project will be some fender flares, post if you want me to keep takin pictures with progress
Your first pic there - I get a chuckle out of that. The body can be relatively clean but behind the the wheel the fender gets a solid layer of mud.
I get that with my 295/50/15. Don't think mine stick out quite as much as you tho.
cops dont really care about wheels around here, drunks and dealers and the occasional meth lab take up most of their time.(though heard a few stories about massive wacky tabbacky fields and green houses)
and yeah it made me laugh the first week....
i wouldent mind the back of the fender with mud on it but mudd on the cab and top of the bed is really annoying...
so any suggestions on fender flairs? i found some in bronco grave yard but little pricey, and i just need them for the back-or would that look goofy?
I thought about flares - if I did it I'd do both, but I have a styleside so the difference between the front and back would be noticeable. You could get away with just the back I think because of your flareside, if you wanted.
Being only two wheel drive for me it seemed like it would wrap my little 26 diameter tire even more, it already looks small on certain angles, so I passed.
sorry to dig this thread up agin i know stosh especially is sick of hearing about it prolly, but i have a few updates... the wheels are eagle alloy 089 series 15x12 (i think) not positive about the # but the rest is confirmed... also i am planning on throwing a matching set with matching tires on the front... tried one on for size and here are the results!
with shocks fully compressed and wheels turn as far as they go i still have about a 1/4' of clearance
