Not really a bolt on. The Superduty had to be different, it's intake tube goes to the left head light. Most all of the supercharged motors have the Throttle body to the right of the plenum. There used to be a good write up by some guy named Allen that had the list of parts and how to go about putting one in a F150.
I think I decided it was physically going to fit the motor, but take a bit of work to get a filter near a fender. I think it was the intake plenum on a V10 that would direct the TB to the drivers side, it wasn't at the same angle, but closer than the wrong side.
I last worked on this idea 2 or 3 years ago, so I may not still be current on my info. Also, For the cost of the lightning charger will all of the parts (new), you could save a little money and develop more power with a whipple or Kenne Bell package. KB has several volumes, I don't recall which was better for the 5.4 but I think they were liking the 2.8 and 3.2L displacement blowers (both were upgrades to the eaton blower.)
Many guys have just called Mike and asked him troubleshooting questions regarding a swap they've started and he's always been happy to help out, even though they aren't a previous customer.
I was wrong, that was the page I was thinking of. Allen was another supercharger setup for mod motors.
Yeah, Mike has been the go-to guy for that engine swap for years. I've posted that link a number of times in the Lightning forum here at FTE to help people out.
Mike actually lives about 50 minutes north of me, up in the Santa Clara/San Jose area. I got to meet him a couple times at some dyno pull events.
He's a bit long in the tooth and grey in the hair, but one really nice guy.
It would be far easier just to slap a turbo or supercharger on your engine, there aren't enough internal differences to justify dropping an L engine in just to gain the supercharger.
I believe the Lightning engine had lower compression to make it easier to supercharge and forged crank/pistons to handle the extra heat/power. Depending on how much boost you want to add, it wouldn't be a bad idea to change the crank and pistons.
No, the lower manifold is wrong for the v10 and I would assume you need a larger displacement blower for the larger displacement engine.
I think that will do, but because the plenum is above the blower, you may need a cowl hood to make it fit.
Thats what I kind of figured about the V10.
There seems to be a lot of room in the engine bay of the Excursions, but fitment issues is certainly something to consider nonetheless.
As far as upgrades to a Lightning engine itself, what is available? Would one be looking at upgrades from a place such as Johnny Lightning Performance? .: Johnny Lightning Performance
