Well I got one of the ebay y-pipes installed about a month ago on my 02 F250 crew 4x4 V10. I've now got a good couple of towing trips on the truck and I can report this mod is well worth it. It isn't a miracle, but there is no question the truck is more responsive with this mod.
I tow about 10k fully loaded and there is a particular grade on the way back from the desert that is a good test for any rig. It's a pretty steep 10% in spots on a two lane back road. Before the y-pipe the truck would pull it in second but I'd be completely floored at about 40-45 and around 3,300 rpm. Now with the y-pipe I have lots of throttle left and at about 3/4 throttle the rig will keep accelerating to 3,500 and about 50. I actually have to back off the gas up the hill as there are some turns and I don't like going above 50 on them.
I've also noticed around town more torque in the low range say around 2k rpm. There is a little more noise in the cab but considering the power increase it is well worth it. For less than $200 including install, you really can't beat it.
balfor, you experienced basically the same thing I did...
I have to say though, that low-end torque PEAK below 2K isn't really any better (although I already had ebay headers on it). The RESPONSE to the pedal below 2K is really noticable.
Much less throttle needed to get the same amount of torque.
It was a big improvement in drivability, that's for sure. It's no longer got that choked feeling to it at low RPMs.

Would you please attach a link to the one you got on ebay.
Krewat, do you experience somewhat of a tinny sort of sand-blasted sound going through one side of your ebay headers that gets more pronounced under load at lower rpms such as in OD accellerating?

Yes. It occurs at basically any RPM when my foot is way down on the go-pedal.
What's weird is, I'm pretty sure it did it BEFORE I put in the headers. But I noticed it afterwards, pretty sure it got much louder after the headers.
But yeah, sand-blasting, BB's rattling, that sort of sound definitely.
05'ups are ok. I will say though that I have been told the merge on the 05'up trucks isn't the greatest but is a lot better than previous years. Have been told the pipe at the y sticks into the exhaust a ways.
Balfor's description is what I experienced. I wonder if some header wrap around the y pipe especially at the merge point would help kill the sound? Funny thing is I get zero flutter or noise with my Thorleys, but the merge point is back farther.
On the y-pipe, I would like to give a shout out for Stan of Stan's Headers on his y-pipe as a place to purchase one. He was very helpful and worked with me on mine.
The new y-pipe did you guys use the aluminized pipe or the 304 stainless? I have a 2001 v-10 and have been thinking about this for a long time. Glad to here it's wroth the money!

Doesn't really matter. The 304 stainless will last longer than the factory exhaust. The steel pipe will rust but a wire brush and header paint keeps it in good shape. The any moisture sitting at the y area will get blown/burned off quick once the engine is fired up.
