Balfor,
What year is your truck? Excellent report, just the kind of stuff I am looking for.

I used the regular, cheaper pipe not the stainless. I'm in S. Cal and there isn't much of a rust problem here.

The main noise is just more of a throaty sound while operating say from 1800-2800rpm. It's not bad at all but noticable especially at big throttle openings like climbing grades while towing. I also notice it when driving close to a wall or anything that reflects sound but pretty much only with the window down. Even then it's not bad.

also I should mention, I've noticed a mileage benefit. I've towed frequently to the same campground which is about 165 miles roundtrip from my house. Before the pipe, this trip would burn almost exactly one tank of gas, the fuel light would normally come on when I got home or soon after.

After the y-pipe, I've put two trips on to the same campground towing the same trailer with the same load. Both times, I've come back with almost exactly 1/4 tank showing. Now, it's not a scientific test, but if this keeps holding that would be a pretty big change in fuel economy while towing, maybe an extra 2-3 gallons savings per tank? I've not checked the economy while not towing yet.

If your looking to buy one it looks a little cheaper with shipping cost from spd performance web site rather than e-bay. Just trying to save a buck!

Balfor,
So the only thing you did was replace the "Y" pipe?
No headers or intake?

No headers. I do have a K&N intake but I've had it almost since I bought the truck, so the y-pipe is the only change I've made lately.

I didn't see any Y pipes on SPDs site for the E series trucks, is it not a factor with this truck? I have a 2000 E-450 SD V-10, and know there are a lot of E series V-10s out there, and they can use all the torque they can get.

Stan's Headers, standard and custom high performance header designs for automotive and marine engines.

Stan's Headers makes an quality Y pipe and are great to deal with. There is not a picture on his website, but if you do a search you can find pics on the forum from several years ago. There is one post that compares 3 different makes of the Y pipe.

Interesting post. Last April I decided to get some work done to my '99. I had budgeted around $5-6K for all I needed done. I called Stan's and explained that some of my exhaust studs were broken and I'd like to get them fixed as well as replace the manifolds with headers. I was also considering changing the exhaust. I was told that they don't do that kind of work and no one makes headers for the V10. I knew this was BS but rather than argue a shop into doing work they obviously don't want to do, I took my truck elsewhere to have the studs repaired and the stock manifolds planed and reinstalled. I may have hit some worker who just didn't want to do any hard work that day but my experience with Stan's headers wasn't too good. If they hire people to answer the phone who drive away business just because they are too lazy to do a difficult job, they wouldn't be the kind of shop I'd want working on my truck. Just my opinion based on my personal experience.

That is a shame. I bought the Y pipe and a few months later redesigned it for a better fit. They exchanged it for me, no problems at all. You never know, maybe you caught them on a bad day. It happens in all businesses.

The Y pipe they sell is still the best quality I have seen. IMO

Is it fixed on 2009 V10's by ford.
Look in my gallery for pictures of 2008 and (presumably) 2009 exhaust. No Y pipe issue there. Totally different setup than the prior years.

I believe that 2005 was the redesign.

Agree with Keith. Look in my gallery and you will the Stan's pipe. He sent me the long one first that didn't fit. I called and talk to Stan himself and I had the short pipe in a couple of days. He sent me T-shirts and other stuff for my trouble.
