Got a question for you guys. I have 180k on my pickup. Never touched the tranny, but I am planning on getting a dp tuner in the next few months (if my golf cart sells)so I need to have some opinions on what to do with the tranny.
Do I get a BTS valve body, or just run it till it croaks at this point. If I put a VB in it will be shot if the tranny does take a crap or is it something that can be put into a new one?
Valve body can be removed and re-installed, so no worries there. I put mine in after the tranny blew up the first time, right at 100k, so I cant blame it on that. I think if you do a good flush fill and then the valve body you would be okay.

Thanks for any opinions on this.
If the tranny feels good I'd probably leave it alone. A new VB won't hurt it any.... and may make the dp a bit more responsive. In reality unless you plan on racing the h%^&* out of it after the tuner... what you got will suffice. You can put the VB into another trans... but if you rip up the stock trans why not go for a complete BTS unit?
ETA - I just put a DP tuner in the 2000 F350 and had a 22,000 trailer behind it for several hundred miles.... and the tranny feels no different than it ever has. truck has 130K miles.
If you can remove some bolts and stick new springs in a hole, you might consider getting a TransGo, and putting the shift kit in the valve body yourself.
Otherwise, it seems like I've read Brian will credit you back on the VB purchase if something happens to your tranny and you get a BTS tranny put in.

Tranny feels fine right now, but I know I have been pretty hard on it over the years. I figure once it croaks I will get a complete BTS.

I will put it in myself if I do it. Just kind of feel like I am on borrowed time with it already. Will a valve body help extend the life or is it just a crap shoot??
I'm going with crap shoot myself on this one. Mine went out with a bang! and then some. I had the old sonnax/tricumulator springs in then. Had it flushed 3 months prior, no signs of wear... Could be because i have the 01 with the dreaded diode though...

From what I understand, the BTS valve body is just an accumulator valve body that basically has the transgo shift kit intalled. The shift kit or BTS VB will shorten/firm up your shifts, which means less slipping in the clutches. Less slipping should extend the life of your tranny. You can buy a TransGo or Tugger for $65 - $100 and just install the springs, pistons, and seperator plate in your existing valve body(s) and get a similar (if not the same) result as the VB.

Wow, I didnt realize what the transgo was I guess. That seems like a good way to go for the $$. It probably is a crap shoot, but then again I have never changed my tranny oil let along flush it, so I guess I am already gambling. I have no intentions of flushing it at this point. If I put a kit in it she'll get some new oil.
BTW, where is the best place to get a transgo kit?

I don't know, but DON'T BUY IT FROM OREGON PERFORMANCE TRANSMISSION. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...ing-piece.html We need to find a new place to recommend where to buy this. Mike (Tenn01PSD350) got his somewhere else, but I couldn't find a website that listed the part for sale. Maybe shoot him a PM.
