I wish it were,But they're telling me different. I heard there is a Napa here somewhere but don't know where it is. what is that part called the filter screws onto? What got me is,its leaking but that rubber gasket looks fine,it has some black parts on one side though. Now I wish I wouldn't of thrown them 2 pieces away when I replaced the oil pan gasket....Didn't know what they were for and nothing said. I just wonder why all of a sudden its leaking oil from all these places and the fuel pump suddenly dies....Hell,her brake fluid is for the most part,water......I'm in for a long, long repair job.....
In the meantime, to make sure I am not from space, for the Vortec engines (SB1 G2+) the oil filter appliance is a device that converts from a PF35ish filter, and lays it longitudinally and takes a PF52ish filter.
The part from advance auto is:
Fel Pro Oil Cooler Gasket Set
Part Number: ES72671
Note the funny name...the reason being is: I dunno. The appliance may or maynot have the bosses for the oil cooler (depends on if the vehicle has KC4 oil cooling spec'ed) and if it did, the 'gasket' is really O-rings on these lines with plastic disconnects, unless its an S/T series with the 4.3 vortec that used these wierd membrane like gaskets between the appliance and the offboard filter mount.
at any rate, the appliance is held to the block via 2 bolts and the gasket/o ring in the picture is what is needed. One of the bolts is not blind so some sealer on the threads is not a bad idea to take away the drip drip drip.
But mind you, this is for the 96 model (which covers 88-96 vortec or not - the reason it was used is to move the filter away from the drive axle thingy)
Most Chevy truck owners will tell you not to run less than quarter full of gas as the pumps need some gas to keep them cool.
Hitting the bottom of the tank with a length 2x4 sometimes gets the pump going again (I know!).
Its a '97 Chevy silverado with a 350. Im gonna put some more fuel in it tonight and bang the fuel tank and see if that works. I got the gasket set,Now I'm trying to find out how to put the paper gaskets on there.

remove the bolts and let it drain into a pan, then lower the appliance. replace the o ring and use permatex#2 or similar to hold the paper gasket in place BUT, dont glue it to the block - be hard to get out later!
I got the old gasket out,it was a real pain. Now that it's fixed, (I hope!) I gotta get a new fuel pump for this thing,Then bleed her brakes and put new fluid in it. I don't know where this crap will end.....Can't really junk it because we wouldn't get much and can't afford to get anouther one. I swear,If it continues to leak oil I'm gonna kill it,junk it,and get her a ford and tell her to like it or love it. Her only 2 options....Hate GM with a passion and still don't know why I bought one my damn self. Thanks for the help guys.
No it's a chevy thing. My dad worked for a spray coupe dealer. The fleet of service trucks were two fords (one '88 and one '87) and two chevies (on '94 and one '95). Both fords had over 300k on them with nothing but routine maintenance, the two chevies had about 92k miles on them. The both lost their transmissions ONE WEEK and about 200 miles apart.
Got the tank down, her fuel sock looks like it was made black, but looks like it is covered in lint and crap. Theres trash on the bottom of the tank and it was a pain to get off. I hope I can get a new pump for cheap...
Man all this grief an hard work. Thats a Chevy for you. Now if you had all Fords this thread would be unecessary. You wouldnt have probems. Hey just kidding man. Hope you get the truck fixed an running so you salvage whats left off it.

Somebody using the gas tank as a toilet? Buying gas in plastic bottles from guys in sheds behind the local store? Uh, no, wait, I bought gas in Mexico from a guy behind the store, in a plastic bottle and it was clean...
Seriously, where have you been fueling to get that kind of stuff?
Hell if I know,my wife drove this truck and fueled it. Now I'm trying to call a few junkyards for a fuel pump. One said they had it for $125 still in the truck....forget that. Once I get it running,All it needs is the brakes bled and a new tire and it will be good.
Turns out the black wire leading into the pump motor,The insulation was melted off and the clip was melted inside with also melted on the contact on the motor which lead to it not getting power. When I pulled it off last night,I was cold, tired and had a headache so when I attempted to get the fuel lines disconnected and the fasteners wouldn't budge and I got a metal sliver in my left thumb,I said screw it. Cut the lines with some old wire cutters and got the tank off....Now that I know the pump might still be good,I got some rubber hose, clamps, and bent the lines back into shape and slid the hoses on. Tonight I'm gonna clean the connection and pray for the best...Hope it works. Thanks for the help guys.
